Decided that the fishing urge could not be put of any longer. A
friend recommended I try Spencer Lake. We arrived at about 6:30 AM and since we don't have a boat we set out from shore at the public ramp. After about 10 minutes an old timer arrived and said that he has fished this lake for the last 30 years and it might bit early yet (water too cold). We fished power bait off the bottom (the old timer gave his approval). After an hour the old timer pulled up and said: "If you don't catch a fish in 60 minutes pack it in
for another day". After he left we reeled up and moved across the lake to the Spencer Lake Tavern/ Restaurant. They have a real nice dock behind the building and encourage anyone to fish for free. A father and his son were already fishing there when we arrived. Within 10 minutes we watched them real in 2 HUGE 3lb Rainbows. My kids couldn't wait to get their lines in the water. It didn't take long and my daughter Lauren caught her first trout ever... A FIVE POUND RAINBOW!... She was so excited. Now she thinks all future trout she will catch will be this big. What a great day.
