Aeneas Lake near Tonasket is fishing AWESOME. The conversion of the lake limit from 5 fish to 1 fish and the introduction of triploids has made this one of Washingtons' top quality fly fishing lakes. I spent parts of 4 days fishing in some very poor , windy fishing
weather and caught mostly 15" to 23" rainbows and an occasional brown regardless of weather. When the wind was up the fish would be right in next to the reeds in 4' water. Chronomids 2'deep
under an indicator would get them. When the wind calmed they would cruise the lake running 2-3' looking for stillborne chronomids and mayflies. You could then get them dragging small nymphs of nearly any kind. These triploids are hungry and dumb. The fighting quality was poor compared to Kamloops trout, but that may improve as the water cools this fall. I averaged around
15-20 fish per day and would have done better except for the relentless wind. Be ready for it as the area is wind prone and the lake is NO motors. Take a heavy anchor and be ready to row or
paddle against heavy winds most of the time.
