Took the float tube out today for some fly fishing action since the
weather was just incredible. Launched by the south end boat house and worked my way along the eastern shoreline toward the next public fishing pier. Must have been an hour or so and nothing. I first tried a Carey special and then worked a six pack. Once I reached the public fishing pier a gentleman fishing asked me what I was using and then recommended a yellow damsel fly nymph. I searched my fly box but to no avail did I have a damsel
fly nymph. So I decided that I would try switching to a gold ribbed hares ear. No sooner than I grabbed the fly from my box and the line went tight. After about a 25 minute fight (NOT!!!!- gotcha thinking though huh?) I reeled in my first fish. I had read an earlier report indicating this lake was just recently stocked and it showed as this was a healthy planted fingerling measuring 10". I then kicked west toward the island and thought
I missed one around the island but could have been a snag. Needless to say I kept using the six pack. Picked up one more today also a planted fish and then lost one for sure just before I pulled out. All in all a somewhat slow day but not too bad as there was definitely a hatch earlier that day or a few days ago.
Also tried a black wooley bugger but no bites at all. Things should start to pick up as spring really begins to shine! Remember to always practice catch and release so that someday these little fingerlings grow into something that will give a fight to remember!
