This was our first trip to Merwin this year,and we thought we'd check out the kokanee fishing. We arrived at about 7 a.m. and trolled wedding rings and rooster tails. I didn't get anything and my buddy only caught a little 8" rainbow. So then we fished down the shoreline casting spinners and caught a few squawfish. I don't really know how big squawfish grow to be, but when I caught that 29" 5lb. fish, it almost made up for the rest of the day. The other squawfish were around the 2lb range. If you fish for the fun of catching fish it might still be worth the trip. As for the kokanee, it's still pretty slow goin'.
