My buddy and I made the traditional trek over the hill to fish Quincy and Burke by George, but bad reports and 1 day of pathetic fishing on both lakes made us change the game plan. We heard of lots of fish being caught over by the potholes, so we headed out Friday morning in search of the infamous rainbow
trout. After 2 hours of driving around trying to decide which lake to fish, we ran into a local guy and he told us they were catching nice fish in Lower Hampton lake. We follow him over there and with great anticipation, we started trolling flies. I hooked a nice 13" trout not even 50 feet from the launch. We thought we were in for a great day of fishing, but that was it except for a few
bites here and there. We noticed a couple of guys on the bank fishing powerbait and had quite a stringer going. They soon left and we proceeded to "keep the hole warm". We started getting bites right away. My buddy hooked the first fish and it was a dandy 14 incher. I soon started getting bites and for the next 3 hours, we hooked 15 trout. (my buddy lost 2 on the jump...they were monsters around 18 inches) the average size we caught was 12" and all were fat. Lots of guys were carrying their boats and
tubes into Upper Hampton also. There were some good reports that came from the lake, but the size was about the same as the lower lake. The bite was spurty at times and Saturday the lake wasn't very good at all. We only caught 6 or so, but they also were nice fat 12"-14" All in all, it was a very productive trip
and if it wasn't for that nice guy that told us about the lake, we would still be driving around over there looking for fish. Thanks man.
I don't believe in "Secret Lakes" People who write on this page and don't tell where the fish are, in my book are not sportsmen. Everybody wants to get out and have a good time once and a while, everybody spends lots of money doing so.
We pay high costs for licenses and other fees...why not share the wealth and hang together as fishermen? The resource is waning as it is...better enjoy it while we can.
