My folks live right on Kitsap lake and this morning I went out to retrieve my crawfish trap to see what I had caught over night. As I walked out on the dock I noticed a huge bass setting atop a stump that lies just off the dock in four feet of water on the opposite side of where I had set the trap. So as quietly as I could I hauled in the trap (I had 14 crawfish in it) and went back up to the truck and got a fishing pole out of the back. I rigged up a weightless Carolina rig with a swivel as the only weight and cast a particularlly big crawfish on a #1 EWG hook out to the stump. Before that mudbug sank two feet the line was moving off and I set the hook. She was a real tail walker and it took everything I had to keep her out from under the dock on several occasions. I finally got her in and put her on my new electronic scale and it read 5 pounds 11 ounces, a new lake record for me. I cast some more bugs around the other nieghbor dock but nobody was home. The rest of the crawfish went back to my house where I dumped them into my pond which is stocked with bass and blue gill that my grand kids fish for. It was a very good morning indeed, and the $7.99 I spent for the crawfish trap was money well spent.
