We are locals and fishing Palmer Lake is one of our favorite outings. When we were up there this week we caught several bass along the shoreline using both topwater and plastic worms. Of course a bass will always hit on a nightcrawler too. We caught about 5 bass between 1 1/2 pounds to 3 1/2 pounds, and a whole slug of small bass. The lake if full of baby bass this year so please be careful in getting your hooks out so that they can be grown to larger sizes. It was strickly catch and release for us this past week, but we will keep some of the bass if we are camping at the lake because afterall they are mighty tasty. We could not get a large mouth to hit on this particular day. If you get bored fishing for the bass and/or have children with you; find a place in the lake with your boat where there is weeds just topping the water and let them drop straight down with a jig and a worm. You can pull in the perch left and right. We have to limit our grandchildren to 8" perch that we will keep otherwise there is way too many to want to clean those little buggers; but they sure are good eating. Please remember this is a pack it in and pack it out lake. The lake is maintained by the local people in Loomis, so a big thank you to them for the new launching boat ramp.
