Summit Lake Outside Mt. Rainer Park

by Mike Carey, September 17, 2010
Summit Lake is a beautiful lake located just outside Mt. Rainer National Park. It's about a 2.5 mile hike, 1,200 ft elevation gain to 5,400 feet. The lake holds plentiful Eastern Brook Trout, although they are stunted. Hiked Aug 25, 2010 with my son James.

I'm with Marc. Beautiful lake a great report. It looks like a great place for a float tube.

Mike, thank you for this video. I was in the area of Summit Lake earlier this summer fighting a small forest fire and wondered if it was worth the hike in. This video shows me that it is. I love fishing brook trout and it looks like a beautiful lake. I was wondering if you could let me know if there are any special regulations for the lake (i.e. season & gear/bait)?

There are no special regs that I am aware of. To be honest I didn't check, because I was fishing single barbless catch/release anyway. OK, just checked. Season closes Oct 31, 5 fish limit, no more than two over 14". No size restriction for kokanee (of which I saw none, but maybe getting out into the middle of the lake would put you in their location. If you catch a 14" brookie get a picture!

Hey Mike! What a beautiful lake, great job with the video. I love the pictures of the lake with Mt. Rainier. Now, I'm looking forward to when my boys are old enough to take camping and fishing. Very impressive web site by the way. I'll be sure to show my husband, Nick.
