Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?
I saw a picture of a small 23" Atlantic Salmon that was caught a few days ago at Seacrest Pier on a dart.

Sounds like Striped Surfperch. I've caught them around docks with shrimp and Gulp Camo Sandworms.

Re: Crappie = mush??? Why do people like them so much??
I had the same experience with crappie caught out of the Snake River during the spring. They were immediately bled and stuck in a cooler of ice until we fried them up for lunch. It was soft and mushy. It reminded me of surfperch which I find is equally soft and mushy.

There are also talks of potentially opening up the Green for fishing. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I don't know anyone who's really surprised. These are the same fish they wanted to keep fisherman off of Lake Washington for too.

Just speculation, but I heard rumors that they are expecting to get approval by June 24. I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Palouse river catfish
The times I fished that river, I just used pet shop crickets on a carolina rig. Worked great, even better than cut bait or shrimp.

I agree, the Palouse is a great river for catfish. If you can find them, crickets are the best bait.

Re: Low profile baitcasting reel
What's your budget? The starting point for a good low profile baitcaster starts around $100. Abu Garcia has a wide selection to choose from, but I've experienced nothing but trouble from their Silver Max to their Revos. I'd choose from among one of the many Diawa reels, or save up for that Curado.

Re: WDFW: Green River closed to Coho retention
I shot them an email requesting clarification. The Green is for all intents and purposes closed if that's the case. All that's left are zombie pinks, and maybe some early chum.

Re: WDFW: Green River closed to Coho retention
Crazy, only 650 adults and 50 jacks made it back. I really haven't noticed a lack of fish, just size. I've been catching them since the beginning of September. I was having a great year. Guess I gotta find another river.

Re: Drifting eggs setup
Lighten your mainline. 12lb is probably the heaviest I'd go. You can use heavier leaders if the spot you're fishing isn't very snaggy. It helps so the fish don't chew you off on deep hookups. Run pencil lead so you can cut the weight to suit the drift.

I could've sworn I heard on the outdoorline podcast that Beaver lake was closed for planting today, and opens up tomorrow for fishing.

Posted a report that's waiting for approval. I thought they were biting pretty good. The Pinks on the other hand proved allusive. Didn't catch one single pink this year the couple times I actually targeted them.

Re: Duwamish Coho?
It's about done. I bet if you check the escapement reports this Thursday, the numbers will spike. That shot of rain we got and the one we are about to get later on this week will drive those fish up to the hatchery. I had a banner year so far, so I can't complain.

Re: I know the fish are here. But how to catch them?
You can easily get away with using heavier line for leader. I've been using 15 & 20lb leaders since the beginning of September, and haven't noticed any decrease in hook ups. Last week though, I did down size to 12lb leaders while float fishing through a pod of rolling fish. Broke off twice on the ho...
