RE:Fishing etiquette???

I don't really mind if someone wants to leapfrog for fishing spots, just as long as they stay at a minimum of two moderate cast lengths away. If they're fishing 60 yards away...no big deal to me, there's only so many docks and so much shoreline to fish, it's inevitable that we're going to encroach o...

RE:Need new wading boots - any advice?

Ideally, felt soles with studs is obviously preferred...I decided to go with something beefier that I hope will hold up better to longer walks than what my previous style had. As I hit more rivers with different types of bottoms, I will figure out whether or not I made a good choice...or just wasted...

RE:No Poacher Police in Cowlitz County........

Even though it's no secret that law enforcement cuts are happening throughout WA State, I'm not sure it was the smartest thing going to the media with it. Now, any P.O.S that poaches and reads the AP or other news media outlet knows where to go. ...it would be funny if all the gamies were hanging o...

RE:Need new wading boots - any advice?

I got tired of the felt soles falling off of the cheap boots I get. After a bit of research, I decided to go with the Simms Rivershed boots. Great support in the ankles and decent sole for longer walks to and from the water. The only drawback, is the material of the sole itself. Lots of people have ...

RE:All Political Correctness aside, let's talk nets!

I use the rubber stretch-type nets. From what I understand the knotted nets have a tendency to scrape off the slime that fish have on its skin making them susceptible to infections. Whether this is in fact the case or not, I do not know. I've been trying to catch one I released a while back so I can...

Fishing in the rain rocks, it usually keeps most at home while those who are confident enough fish right through the storm Just like everything else in the PNW...if you're not fishing in the rain it's going to be a long wait until the sun comes out. :) Springtime's coming. :-" HaHa!! I won't lie......

It all depends upon your definition of "blown out". If it's like most of the larger rivers throughout the Puget Sound, which looks like chocolate milk with quite a bit of debris...then yes. I don't pay much attention to many of the rivers, other than the Puyallup & White. That's just because I drive...

RE:Pit Bulls, what do you think?

I like dogs, but pit bulls just seem too unpredictable in my opinion. All I know, if an animal, whether it is a household pet or otherwise is large enough that it can cause serious injury or death to me or anyone in my family...I don't want anything to do with it. Doesn't matter if it's a pit bull, ...

I had a similar experience on Ohop Creek not too long ago. Four medium sized dogs come down to the waters edge raising hell. Not much I could do if they did decide to jump me, the only thing I had to defend myself was a pair of pliers, a pocket knife and a couple softball sized rocks out of the cree...

Will go to auburn sports and check out there selection for now... I've only been in Auburn Sports and Marine a couple times, but they didn't have much with regards to fly fishing.Puget Sound Fly Co. is probably your best bet. They're just north of S 260th St on Hwy 99 in Kent (east side of Hwy 99 i...

RE:want to learn fly fishing.

Ask ten different people the same question and you're most likely going to get ten different answers. Especially when it comes to fly fishing. Dependent upon the target species, environment (river, lake, creek), and your preferences the options will vary widely. For Salmon and LMB (hopefully Steelhe...

RE:Advise for a beginner

Im thinking about getting into tying as well. I was just looking at some of cabelas tying kits. There is one that seems pretty nice for $45. It comes with a vise, and all the bobbins, bodkin, hackles pliers, whip finish, ect. There is another kit for $30, it still has a vise and some of the basic t...

Some of the government budgets are a bit tricky to read...at least for me. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website has their annual budgets posted and freely downloadable in .pdf format. This may or may not be what you're after...but it's an interesting read none-the-less. See linky b...

RE:Advise for a beginner

First thing I would recommend is picking up a couple books from your local library or favorite tackle shop. Once you determine what you want to be tying, then start looking into supplies. Orvis has a book that has a handful of your basic fly patterns, ingredients, and directions for tying them. It's...

RE:New to Washington, need someone who fly fishes to show me the right rivers.

Welcome to Washington and WL.com, hit a local library and see if they have a book titled "The Flyfisher's Guide To Washington"...it's a decent book listing quite a bit of information regarding some of the more "popular" fly rivers and still waters throughout Washington. Amazon has it fairly reasonab...

If you have comments on any of the proposed regulations, be sure to comment or attend the meetings. The WDFW extended their "open for discussion" deadline until 01 Dec...then they'll close down shop. Below is a linky with all the information.
