WDFW notifying crawfish sellers not to ship live crawfish

WDFW notifying crawfish sellers not to ship live crawfish to Washington State. Big fines involved. I just read this today and frankly was surprised. I know its been a Federal law for years and has been ignored by most States. I know Molly really set into motion public awareness on crawfish and Jon A...

Re: Crawfish in the Nisqually River?

I've never had much luck for crawdads around here until the water really warms up . We have fun soaking traps during our summer camping excursions, but the size and quantity we catch is nothing compared to what some of those good old boys down south get . Actually WA Totally kicks butt big time in ...

Re: WDFW Fall Walleye Surveys in Washington

Interesting. I know that Arizona has few native fish that would be predators, but the introduced species would feed on them quite well. Nevertheless, this quote causes some concern. Where is this source from? http://sites.duke.edu/writing20_12_f2010/2010/09/02/northern-crayfish/" onclick="window.op...

Re: WDFW Fall Walleye Surveys in Washington

I will admit that I was not aware of the "Northern Crawfish". I knew that we had the native Signal Craws in Washington, and some blues, and some Rustys in the Columbia.... So, what are the negatives of the Northern Crawfish? I find that any water that has the signal craws in it produces better trou...

Re: WDFW Fall Walleye Surveys in Washington

We have finished our walleye surveys of Billy Clapp and Moses Lake and we move on, next week, to Potholes Reservoir. Billy Clapp catch rates were similar to years past but Moses Lake catch rates averaged 35 walleye per net (22 per net in 2011). There were also a lot of small perch collected. The ab...

Re: Perch spawn on Moses Lake

Anybody heard anything yet? I haven't heard anything about Moses Lake yet but the excitement at Mardon Resort on the Potholes Reservoir is the big perch being hauled in. 14" perch I've been told but have not seen. Walleyes have been hitting good as well. Every time I've drove by the fish cleaning s...

Re: Potholes Fall Walleye

I'll be heading over there next week, but haven't fished fall walleye since I was little and was hoping someone might lend me some tips and tricks? I usually fish worm harnesses for spring/early summer eyes, but I'm guessing crankbaits for fall right? What would help me out the most would be locati...

Re: Small creek CrawDad traps?

I believe the 10 pounds a day only refers to the natives. The nonnatives (Signal), you can take all you want. http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/statewide_rules.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I dont think crawfish were a consideration to a youth only fishery... the fish were....

The next day the crawdad traps were still there. I...

Re: Fish lake crawdads?

So, I tried to catch some crawdads while I was out on Fish Lake this last week. Five pots and two days of soaking, bait used was salmon heads, and herring, fresh trout in anywhere from 8-20 feet of water around lots of rocks. When I set them, I was so optomistic even though the owner of the Cove Re...

Re: Fish lake crawdads?

So I just bought a piece of property over near Leavenworth, and went fishing at Fish Lake. Did pretty well and was looking around and saw a ton of promising areas to try to catch crawdads. After we were done fishing, I aksed the owner of the Cove resort if he had seen any crawdads in the lake and h...

Rule of thumb for this time of year is 7 to 15 feet. Make sure to stay out of the weeds.

Re: First time Crayfish fishing in WA

Went crayfish fishing on Lake Washington - soak one pot with tuna overnight, nothing. Next was Lake Meridian - soak one pot with chicken legs overnight, nothing. Then went to Rattlesnake Lake - soak for two nights, nothing. Is the temperature too cold, or what? Temperature is a slight problem now b...

Re: Stunted Crawfish

I dont know how much this plays into the stunted theory . Quite a few years ago someone released Thai Crawfish into lk Wa. Why ? I dont know. I heard they have a voracious appetite even eating some local species of crawfish.I slightly remember the fisheries guys saying do not eat them. Not for cons...

Stunted Crawfish

If anyone has come across a lake in WA that you might believe have Stunted Crawfish in it, please email me at (terrybullard@terrybullard.com.) Stunted crawfish are caused by over populations of crawfish which have run out of food sources and have quit growing. This applies to both Rusty crawfish in ...

so a few weeks ago i made a post asking if there was info on where(which lakes) in my area that were known to have non natives....thought maybe i'd make a real effort and target them....try and take as many as i could and release the natives...got no answer <shrugs>...did some research and made som...

The season is first Monday in May - October 31. You'll want to bring some sort of system to weigh because you can be sure that if you checked the Officer will have a way to weigh them. Hi Stacy, I'm happy to see that you are here! A excellent way to estimate the weight of your crawfish catch is by ...

Re: crawfish on the snake river

I've been trying to trap crawfish around lower granite reservoir. having some success, but noticing that a lot of them are die shortly after capture. I'm told not to boil the dead ones. Has anyone else noticed the same thing happening or am I doing anything wrong. I pull the traps, put them in a co...
