RE:Stillwater Strategy
i've been at this fly fishing stuff for about a year now so I'm by no means an expert... it sounds like your method might be a tad selective because fish are not always feeding on the nymph you are using. I like to use a more general technique unless I see fish feeding on a particular food source. t...

RE:favorite way to cook salmon
the other day I took a nice bright pink and put it in my smoker for 20 minutes or so with cherry. after it was pretty heavily smoked I transferred it onto aluminum foil and sealed it up. then I grilled it till it was done. thats my favorite way now because it has a smokey taste and its moist.

RE:New salmon pole suggestions
if I had 200-300$ to blow on a salmon rod I would buy an 8' 6" lamiglass and put a shimano curado on it. you've got many many choices that will help you narrow your search such as: fiberglass or graphite-glass for durability and graphite for sensitivity stiffness- do you want a rod for humpies and s...

RE:filet knife question
I've used thick knives for filleting rockfish and lings because their thick bones are tough to cut through with a regular fillet knife. with a 1in wide knife it is very difficult to pivot the blade after you cut to the spine. myself I prefer a stiff fillet knife for most things. what kind of knife a...

RE:Wedding ring question
I guess you should tell that to the hundreds of trout I've caught with dodgers and wedding rings. I didn't say that the dodgers don't work with wedding rings I said they would not help if they were put close enough to the wedding ring that the spinner "swims" back and forth. they probably do work f...

RE:Wedding ring question
I don't think that a wedding ring would not work better if its swaying back and forth because wedding rings are not a imitation of baitfish. dodgers and flashers are used to make a lure look like a swimming fish because minnows don't swim in a perfectly strait line. my guess is that a dodger would m...

RE:General all-purpose rods
personally I could not use one rod for all my fishing because during lingcod season I fish with up to a pound of weight and depths of 250ft. when i fish for trout on the other hand i need to be able to cast an 1/8th ounce spinner 40yds. rods are sort of like people some are a jack of all trades but ...

my home made wedding rings
so I've heard a couple of members who alter their wedding ring spinners and I would like to share my creation. some prefer to use 6-8 lb test and in theory this sounds good because trout are played in open water and it is not necessary to use heavy line. but I have found that the clevis nicks up you...

wait for the steady tug then set the hook. use 2 hooks and only leave about a half inch of worm behind the last hook.

RE:pinks are coming
I think I'm going to bring along a medium weight rod and see if I can use it on my down rigger without breaking it. Maybe troll a pink coyote by itself just to see if that works. I agree that catching the pinks on light gear is a blast for sure. I'm no expert. I am sure there are many methods and s...
