Re: Where to donate new/almost-new tackle?
Try the Pogey Club, my wife's grandparents used to help out with some of their fishing activities, they were in Bremerton. Might be similar ones in other locations.

Re: Scotty vs Cannon
I saw that option, as well as the bottom tracking ability which seemed cool (as long as you had the right brand of FF) on the Cannon. I am also confused how the your line would adjust so might sound cooler than it is. Probably will just go with a Scotty (1106, looked like the 2106 just had a digital...

Scotty vs Cannon
Looking to upgrade my old Penn downriggers as all the plastic is getting brittle. Seems like Cannon or Scotty are the two top rated options. I see more Scotty's but any strong opinions either way? Pros/Cons of one over the other? They will be going on an 18' Weldcraft angler, with a bracket for inst...

Re: Snake or fish???
Here was the official description. the one I saw was about 2-3' as well. "I'm pretty sure it is Nereis brandti or other worm from Nereis. I also think now called Alitta brandti but also questions about morphological differences between numerous species in a complex. But near as I can tell, they are ...

Re: 2021 Pink Salmon
No but I drove over it on my way back from shrimping today and it was like milk chocolate, not the normal aquamarine (it was just a little silty in the morning). Fish checker said there had been lots of people catching pinks in the salt, south of deception pass, and they were jumping everywhere sout...

Re: Snake or fish???
It is a type of pile worm (I forget the exact type), I saw one a few years ago in the San Juan's and had to ask some marine biologists what it was. They will come to the surface and swim around around mating time I read. Very strange things to see swimming around.

Re: Tulalip fishery question-report
Ditto Kodachers response. At least you were able to get a nice one! It does suck that they closed that in the middle with little warning, they had to know it was coming and should have made the announcement earlier. I have been wanting to fish the bubble, but looks like I will have to wait until nex...

Crab eggs
Pulled this lady up the other day, full of eggs. Interesting we were in a spot that all we got were females, except one large male out of about 40 crabs. While not the most experienced crabber I thought it was interesting that there were so many females in every pot, not even any small males. Thankf...

Re: Puget Sound Conditions Forecasting
I am still learning myself so someone with more experience will likely chime in and correct me if needed. Also I am mainly in the north sound or Islands. Both the wind and current will greatly affect the waves (especially if they oppose each other) so both weather and tides need to be checked, ideal...

Re: Skykomish River - Reiter closed to hatchery steelhead retention?
It does not say closed, so that (99% sure) means you refer to the statewide rules which are 2 hatchery steelhead, unless otherwise noted. Another instance of WDFW being as clear as mud!

Re: How to track the salmon through the river
You can check the WDFW hatchery escapement reports, although that only tells you when they reach the hatchery. If you look at previous years you can get an idea of when the fish reach the hatchery, then you can at least get a general idea of where they might be in the river and when run is mostly ov...

Re: ScuttleButt fishing contest - covid safe???
Chirp chirp... I would say not too big of deal to keep distance or wear a mask, especially since you would be out in the air and wind. It all comes down to viral load, exposure amounts and time, so if you are breathing down someones neck you could transmit easily. Being outside greatly reduces any e...

Re: Salmon Steelhead Rod/reel Under $150
I cannot be much help with reels (most of mine are either hand me downs or an Abu Garcia that I would not recommend), but keep an eye on Ebay, Craigslist or Offerup, you might be able to get a nice used one reasonably priced.

Re: Questions about catching baitfish in Puget Sound
Did the little Chinook eat bait fish you had already hooked (or were hooks too big for the bait fish)? I was able to catch a few with the Gamakatsu rig once I saw them swimming by while shrimping, just slowly jigging. I used the #4 size.

Re: Salmon Steelhead Rod/reel Under $150
I like my Okuma SST Salmon rod. I use it for most everything, just swap reels for various types of fishing. If I recall it was reasonably priced, then just choose your reel of choice.

Re: Crabbing 2020
If you find them they should be good size is what I have found so far. I had decent success on the West side of Camano, north of the park, one approaching 8", the others all 7+ (mix of in close, 20-30' and out deeper, 70' with small guys/females in between). We did have to sort through quite a few u...

Re: Winthrop area lake fishing with an 8 YO
You could try Pearrygin lake, lots of shore access along the park side, and you can hike around. There is a little resort there that may rent boats as well. I had success last year with a dick night and my buddies did better drifting along with Wholly Buggers. There is also Big twin lake (selective ...

Re: Rainbow Lake Okanogan County
No real info for you, but growing up in Tonasket I had never heard of Rainbow lake, so I would say small and not too deep and possibly marginal fishing (maybe Upland Sandpiper has better info, since he seems to be in that area kayak fishing). Some of the lakes in that area are also very alkaline (Bl...

Re: Boat-in Beaches Everett/Island County Area
Kayak point would be another location, you could even launch and crab right there. The launch isn't much just a little driveway into the water. I think you can walk around a bit on Hat Island, not sure if there is a public beach there though.
