Fly Fishing New Zealand
My wife and l are finally planning our honeymoon, taking a trip to New Zealand next winter. I have heard there is world renown fly fishing there. Has anyone done this before, or know anything about it? Any insight you have would be super helpful, including what month is best to go, where, etc. I am ...

Re: rules proposal: no limit on pan fish
I haven't been on here much, so I apologize if my questions are redundant...but I have two questions.
1) What qualifies as a panfish?
2) Did this go through?
Thanks guys

Re: Reel replacing
+1 on Pfluegers. I use them exclusively, with the approach that, if I break one, I can still use the spool and the handle on one of my others. I look for them on Ebay and sometimes find deals on two for under $50 in the clamshell pack.

Re: ATTN ROD BUILDERS: Polyester embroidery thread for wrapping rods?
Thanks for your replies guys. I found some similar threads on other forums that all suggested the same thing: nylon and polyester should both work, and that many people use poly and nylon sewing threads because there is a wider array of colors. I have a bunch of broken rods that I bought to scavenge...

ATTN ROD BUILDERS: Polyester embroidery thread for wrapping rods?
Just as it says, I found a bundle of polyester embroidery thread in big spools at a secondhand store for dirt cheap. Has anyone tried wrapping guides with it? Any reason why it shoudn't work?

Set for the season
I took a couple rod building classes this winter, built a fly rod and a spinning rod. My results have been hit and miss, but I've got the bug bigtime! This summer has been super busy; we bought a new house, which has sucked up most of my time. There have also been big birthdays, anniversaries, a cou...

My friend and I went up there yesterday, just below the bridge off of Lowell Rd. I had 2 hard bites but both jumped off. We saw fish landed by guys in a boat. The bad news was, I kicked over a beehive on the trail and got stung upwards of a dozen times. Today I have been sick off and on and staying ...

Something I am in the process of doing is learning how to sew. For quite some time now it seems that I have seen things and said, "If I knew how to sew, I could make that for next to nothing." So I am going to do it. I like the idea of repurposing things as well. So one of the first things I plan to...

Source for 2 piece rod blanks in assorted colors?
I want to build trout spinning rods for my family for Christmas this year. What I am looking for is 2 piece blanks, light or med-light, 2-6lb or 4-8lb, 5'6" to 6'6", in assorted colors. I have been looking and cannot find a source for them. I am certain someone has them. I thought it was a no-braine...

Rod Building section
I would like to see us add a rod building section to this forum. It is a great hobby, several of us have taken it up, and I am certain that others would jump on board if it were given some exposure. Currently if someone wants to discuss something of this nature it is posted in the gear/tackle sectio...

Re: Lakefront Recreatin Property
Funny you should mention Mason county...that is an area that I saw a couple of possibilities. While I would be totally okay with "across the road," one of the main reasons I want to do this is because my FIL has some very difficult mobility issues. Launching and getting in a boat at a boat launch wo...

Our family went and spent the weekend at Mineral lake, did some camping, some fishing, and had an absolute blast! The experience was not without hassles though. We stayed at Mineral Lake Lodge and the bed was horribly uncomfortable. My in-laws took their RV down and stayed at a campground a ways awa...

Re: Drive-up lake with a view of Mt. Rainier
Well, we had the family fishing trip this weekend. Trina and her mom were overwhelmed by emotion at the place I chose and how perfect it was to lay Aunt Barbara to rest there, so it couldn't have been more special. As for the fishing...well, I spent most of the day tying knots, as they were getting ...

Lake Sawyer is down past Renton, towards Black Diamond. Great bass fishing, as well as trout and I am sure there are other species as well. Oh, and welcome to Seattle! I am sure there is quite a bit of culture shock coming from New Hampshire, but I think you will find it to be the greatest place you...

Also, doesn't it take a long time for a worm to hit the bottom with no weight? Or maybe you use a big night crawler? I just want to get what you are saying correctly, not arguing. You have me fascinated now ;)

Re: Why We Have Rules
I personally want to know the rules and follow them. I'm not good and playing ignorant, and my conscience won't let me forget about it, so if I am cheating I won't have any fun. I also don't want to fish with someone who cheats, because next thing you know there is a game warden there asking me if I...
