An awkward tie job, but cool that it was tied by a surgical robot.
On the other hand, if this robot can't tie a decent looking fly, then do I really want to let it do surgery on me?

And here I thought I was using quaint old slang. Didn't Raymond Chandler invent the term? Not implying your old or nothin'....racfish wrote:Whats, Grass You mean.? How is one Grassed? Im a bit leaning to the older side. Im not picking on ya. Just curious.

RE:FISHING REGULATIONS
Add me to the list of readers who are frustrated with this issue. In particular, I was seeing so many reports where bait fishers were C&Ring way past the limit, that I began to wonder if I'd read the regs wrong. I used to call people out on it, but I got tired of being a hard-ass. It's very discoura...

RE:Dog attack!
Thanks for all the input, gents. This whole episode has gotten me thinking about the responsibilities of ccw so, in a way, it was a good experience. When you pull your gun, you have to be clearly and fully aware of your surroundings (including intangibles such as local laws), and you may only have a...

RE:Advise for a beginner
Great advice here. I have only two things to add. 1) Keep an eye on craigslist. I stumbled into a guy selling off a big box of great materials and basic tools for $20 bucks that got me started in style. That said, I don't agree that cheap materials are the best way to start. With low quality fur and...

RE:Dog attack!
I'd have waded into the water (since I don't have a gun). I wonder if the dogs would have come into water to "attack." A good idea, and the thought crossed my mind - except this river has a strong, unpredictable current. It claims lives every year. On a smaller stream, I would definitely consider w...

#1 carry a larger caliber .38 minimum, altho I'd recomend a .357 minimum. A .22 can hurt a dog but it's hard to kill a dog with a .22, usually. Carry a big stick. Agreed, though I expect they'd have felt my CCI Stingers a bit. I was carrying a stick, but it was only a 5wt. #2 shoot the dogs if they...

Dog attack!
I spent a late afternoon fishing a river at a park in the center of a nearby town yesterday. Small groups of teenage guys were milling about the parking lot so I had taken my small .22 pistol with me - I wasn't expecting a confrontation, I just didn't want to leave it in the car (I have a CCW permit...

Another advantage of not using bait is that released fish don't count towards your limit.

Parachute Adams, small and large chironomids, a Doc Spratley and a "partridge and orange" will, like the wooly bugger, allow you to roughly imitate most fish food. But you will catch far more if you can look at the insect life swimming around your boots and buy (or tie) really exact imitations. Ever...

Just head to your local public Catch & Release only lake and you'll find loads of 17"+ fish. (If you've never experienced the benefits of a C&R lake, you haven't lived!)

For affordability, you might look at the Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Carry. Very dependable with any ammo you care to feed it. The one weak point about Bersas is the finish, which is pretty delicate for a firearm. Otherwise, a very good value.

Terrell is my Achilles lake. Bass fishers come all the way from Seattle and say it's a prime bass water, which leaves me with the conclusion that I must suck at bass fishing.

RE:Winter season waters and special Regs?
For lakes listed by county, along with brief but informative descriptions, I found the 2009 Washington Fishing Prospects PDF more useful (http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/prospects/2009fish_prospects.pdf). You still have to double-check the regs for each lake, but this gives you a quick reference for lakes i...

RE:Winter season waters and special Regs?
Here's Skagit County (went thru the regs and also added info from the WDFW Fishing Prospects). Yeah, I think about fishing when I'm at work. Lakes open all year (times listed are how long it takes to get there from work!) Beaver Lake (42 minutes, 73 acres): This Beaver Lake (there are at least 15 in...

RE:Rod Preservation During Transport in Vehicle
Thanks for the tip, guys. I slapped one together this morning. I used black PVC so that it blends in to the carpet in my hatchback–doesn't stand out if I leave my rod in the car (and pretty much just looks like a crappy piece of PVC to anyone who might look more closely. One modification I made was ...

I saw these at Yeager's in Bellingham and was wondering the same thing. They're priced in the $2-300 range, so I was wondering what the differences might be between these and the similarly priced Sage Flight and Launch series.

Neato!
I'm gonna try it. Being cheap, I might just link together a few old key rings and send em down the line on heavy braid. Thanks for the idea.

I've got a pair. Never used them for Float-tubing, but they were excellent for a year of heavy use, snorkelling and freediving in Thailand. Picked them up again recently and they were still in great shape after two years in storage. They are great for both dolphin- and scissor-kicks, with lots of ma...
