Re: New to flyfishing
If you're ever in the Eastside, stop by Orvis in Bellevue or Creekside in Issaquah. Both are top-notch shops. Talk to Leland or Reggie at Orvis or Pete if you're in Issaquah. They'll set you up and point you in the right direction.

Remember to handle them carefully. Those Puget Sound Sea Runs are gems of trout in my book and have only recently made a comeback to healthy numbers.

"Sometimes it is because people don't want to have too many people on their "secret" spot" ^Well, yes that's oftentimes the case, and you can't really blame em. There's nothing like the solitude of being the only/last guy out on the lake watching the sun go down... while hooking and releasing fish a...

G-Man, I still don't think we're on the same page, sorry. I do agree the steelhead broodstock program is a great tool as a temporary gene bank IF used as such. The problem is that recovery plan is ALSO implementing the use of stocks from other systems (chambers creek hatchery fish) when the native s...

RE:Elwha River Recovery
Realistically there are no more pure wild salmon and steelhead strains left in the Elwha Sure there are. In addition to the five species of salmon, searun cutthroat, and winter and summer steelhead returning to the lover 5 miles, there's a healthy native population of O. Mykiss (rainbows and post-d...

Elwha River Recovery
I don't know how many of you on this board are familiar with the issue, but if you are an angler concerned with the health and the future of our rivers and fish runs, it is definitely worth discussing.

It might be still a bit high and fast (be careful!)but its on the drop. Take the fly rod... the westslopes and bows are eager to rise to any attractor dry fly ie. stimulators, adams, elk hair caddis, hoppers, etc.
Good luck

tnj I dunno if you're trying to be funny or what? Please don't tell me your buddy actually fishes it for steelhead. It seems like I almost always run into a poacher fishing bait on the Cedar. It's amazing how these native trout in our own backyards have made such a rebound during the long closure, i...

RE:Limits for local lakes
I wanna dig up this thread back to the top. Its good to know that many of you are conservation-minded anglers, thinking about the future of our local/urban fisheries (LK. WA and SAMM), which we are VERY lucky we still have (and in good shape, too!). With the explosion in popularity of these fisherie...

RE:Tribal hatchery set to release first sturgeon
"Sturgeon have been a staple (in Yakama culture and diet) just like salmon," he said. "It's important to bring back the sturgeon." Hmmm... not sure how I feel about hatchery raised sturgeon. I'm guessing (and hoping) that they're Columbia River stock.... IMO "bringing back the sturgeon" should be f...

RE:2011 Pink Salmon Run!
From what I have read and seen on many websites the suppose 2011 puget sound pink run will be currently between 7 million and 42 million! Sorry but where in the world did you get 42 million? Even 7 million is A LOT of fish. To put things into perspective, an estimated 5 million came back to the Sou...

RE:want to learn fly fishing.
First and MOST importantly, visit your local fly shop (Creekside in Issaquah, Orvis Bellevue, Puget Sound Fly Co. in Kent are all TOP notch shops), where they are both passionate and knowledgeable about casting bugs. AND take a fly casting lesson. The casting lesson I took 4 years ago was probably t...

Just wondering what brand was it? Always buy good quality leaders and tippet, it should be something to never cut costs on. Cant go wrong with Rio trout leaders and powerflex tippet.

I use them in the summer on the Yak and Methow, usually with a dropper nymph hanging off of it. The fish take the dropper most of the time but I've hooked some huge cutts and bows on the Chernobyl on top.

You may want to try something a bit heavier than a piece of 10 lb. mono. It can be hard to cast good loops with a light leader butt section. Try a 30# piece of Maxima UG or Chameleon.

RE:Will Fly FIshing In The Rain Lower My Chances Of Catching Something?
I've experienced some of the best hatches and craziest rises when it was drizzling. But then again I was tossing a dry fly. I doubt you'll get much action on the surface this time of year. Stick with streamers and nymphs
