Ohop Lake

Post by rickydbasser » Tue Jun 05, 2012 12:38 pm

Thought I'd give a little heads up on a lake that can really kick out big bass. Ohop Lake near Eatonville. In my life I've caught four 8 lbers, and three of them came out of Ohop. I hooked another that I saw and knew it would have been 8 lbs that broke off because of a stupid mistake, and another which I never saw that I couldn't even turn when it headed into a snarl of brush. Broke 12 lb test that was holding for all its worth when the line snapped. I added a photo of the biggest bass I ever caught, which is out of Ohop on the last day it was open for that year. It was 8 lbs 12 0zs, which is pictured. All were caught on plastics except for an 8 lb even which was on a buzz bait. This lake has had its bad years because of three different times it was sprayed for weed control. Water color and fishing was terrible for at least a year after each. But there hasn't been a spraying for a few years now, so it is back in its prime. Last year I fished it one of the last days it was open and caught six, including a 4-6 and a 6-2. Anyway, its a lake to think about.

Why did you post my picture? [blink]

Yup, Ohop has been great in the past. It's also the first lake where I ever used a tube lure, did real good. I haven't fished it in many years, maybe 15 to 20 years. I have thought about fishing it again, but 'things' have prevented me from doing so, but that/those thing/s has/have gone away.

Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

knock it off. Next you'll be getting a 2 week suspension, maybe a month depending on my mood for the rest of the day.

Yep Ohop is really good , but so is Kapowasin and Tanawax. Great lakes only problem with them is the boat launches are frequented by thieves. They will break out your windows just for the fun of it. Doesnt matter if you have anything worth stealing or not. Tanawax seems to be the worst for this. If your going fishing at these lakes my advice is to leave nothing in the vehicle and leave the windows DOWN. Let them see there is nothing worth stealing and save yourself the cost of replacing a window or two. The fishing can be SLOW.... or GREAT! Lots of pigs in these lakes.

That is an awesome bass. So what are the prospects of these lakes from the shore. Yup, poor ib ain't got a boat or other floating device other than his gut, lol.

Yah Ohop can be great lake but unfortunatley the lake was treated with weed control chemicals on July 31st I was up there the other day and the lake looked realy grungy kind of a soupy green color when I saw the treatment notification at the boat launch I knew why.

Very nice. I've fished it a few times in the tube and boat and have never done all that well. I have a buddy that has done well tho. Like any lake...timing is key.

Thanks for the imfo......will save me a long drive out there. Just about the time the lake starts clearing, the home owners want to get rid of the weeds....Its okay to swim in water that looks like a septic tank, but at least there's no weeds....Unbelievable.

Well, here is what I do not understand. Where I work, we can do nothing for weed/grass control because of potential runoff into streams or other bodies of water, but they can put stuff that kills weeds right into the water?
