What does a Bass Bed Look Like?

I think he is saying that larger males make larger beds and they bed near the security of deep water or cover. The male makes and guards the bed while the female (which is usually larger than the male) lurks around the vicinity of the bed but not on it while she waits to drop her eggs. I have never seen a male give away the location of the female but sometimes she will show up out of nowhere if he isn't aggressively defending the bed.

They are very protective of their spawning area and any little fish or plug or worm etc will tick them off and they will attack..... Good luck and be patient!

That's true, especially for largies. You really have to see how a bass will react when a lure is on there bed, there actions will determine if they'll bite or it's a waste of time.

I found some bass on beds at Long lake, fished em and they were protecting the bed. The water was only 54.

How the fish act when you present a bait: If it takes off like a rocket before the bait hits the water it has probably just moved up and won't defend the bed. If it stays on the bed but ignores your bait it is catchable but you need to figure out what bait it will react to. If the fish turns and looks at your bait it is very catchable.

I've fished Steel several times. Did pretty well,an LMB at 5lbs even. My personal best.Not worth bragging about,but considering my bass skills are lacking. I was pretty happy.

In my opinion a Senko. lizard or white jig Something bright to get there attention and also it should be light so it enters the water with as little of a disturbance as possible.

I like texas rigged plastics or something on a football head jig. Brush Hogs, Lizards, craws, something that just pisses em off.

The salamander is a Nest Raider by River2Sea. They are pretty large so I'd only throw them at big largemouth. The sunfish are Ultimate Bluegill (bluegill, crappie, redear) by Mattlures. I haven't tried them on beds but I hear they work well. If you have trouble hooking the fish try aggravating them with the Mattlure then throw something smaller in there.
As to what plastics to use on beds. Almost anything will work. A lot of guys like white baits because it is easier to see if the fish has picked it up. I have had success with a grub on an open jig and tube baits.
If you guys are looking to catch them on beds you better hurry. I saw fish on beds this week on North Lake and today on Lake Sammamish. In fact most of the beds I saw on Sammamish were empty so I think lots of fish (smallmouth anyways) have already spawned.
And PLEASE if you do bed fish put them back right where you caught them as quickly as possible. Let's protect these fish and keep recruitement as high as possible.

Yup, right on platinumroof, great info.

Another out of the box technique that is great for bedding bass is a D-shot rig with with a 8-12" tag end tied to a rubber band. Tie the rubber band to a large 1/2oz or greater weight. Now toss this past the bed so to not scare away the bedding bass, drag this rig on top of the bed with the weight resting on the lip of the bed. Your bait should be hovering over the bed and the weight should be heavy enough that if your moving your bait it will not move. Now sit on it and twitch it ever once in awhile. Fishing for bedding bass takes patience. I have fished for individual bedding bass for hours. You really have to aggrevate them. The female is not going to strike at the bait to eat it (she is not hungry), she will be going for it to pick it up and move it off the bed. Good luck and remember to be gentle and always release her back as quickly as possible and in the same area.
