Swapping Trebles!

Post by BassinBomber » Thu Jul 10, 2008 6:25 am

BigbassDez made a point and I wanted to post a thread about it: When I swap the rear treble on my Jointed Cranks from smaller to bigger would it make a difference if I used Red Hooks. I posted on the "Red" subject before but not to this effect. Thinking about swapping all my cranks and poppers to red,..any thoughts?

Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but most people swap the front treble. That way it looks like its bleeding from the gills. Anxious to read some responses.

I swap the treble hooks on most of my crankbaits. I usually put a red one on the front like Chris said in the previous post. Not sure how much of a difference it actually makes, but it is one of those confidence things. I think the real important part of the whole deal is just getting quality hooks onto the crankbait. I like to put Mustad Triple Grips on my baits. They really hold the fish.

I Do the same on all of my cranks , However that joint rapala has a thin back to it's body so only on that crank do i swap out the back trebs .

Im surprized that after all there years those crank still come with such small trebs .. good lil bait ..:batman:

I've been told putting the red hooks on the front will have better hook ups, but if you put it in the back, they'll swat at it.

Lots of people believe in the bleeding bait theory, thus red hooks, I've yet to try it.....

Fish can see red very good so if you feel to change your hooks then do so! Fish look for water displacement more than red. In early spring I use a red keeper hook on my plastics but as it warms up I go with brass. It seams to work that way for me.

How you fish all your cranks makes more of a difference then the color of the hook...

I swap red for the front only on my lipless cranks seems to work OK But As long as they are sharp the color doesn't make that much of a difference.
