have you guys been throwing topwater baits yet? i have been catching a bunch of dinks the last couple days on buzzbits.

Not on this side of the mountains yet. I was at Banks last weekend and was gettin hammered by hogs on buzzbaits in the evenings. It was awsome! I'm gonna try Waughop lake this evening for some lmb, and I have plenty of topwater baits ready to go. I'll let you know how I do.

Caught a buzzbait fish two weeks ago, it was only 2 lbs. I'll be throwing it morning and evening for the next few months.

Is it time already to pull out the buzzbaits!!??? Work's been busy this spring, haven't been able to get out enough to target some of them big ol largies!

Need to dust off the bass tackle and string up some buzzbaits if ya'll are already pulling em outta the water with topwater.

Was using a buzz bait the other day and had one about 6lb swirl at it but he missed it and would not take anything else:( but nothing caught on one yet this year.

neither i twitched a rapala on top, probably not the best thing to do but I have yet to replenish my stock of softbaits from last year and I have never bought a jig before.

Been throwin BuzzBaits-Frogs-WakeBaits-BBZ Floater,..had a blow up on Stevens the other day on a Frog,..2 excited,..set the hook 2 soon,..it's an art I tell ya!

People have a misconception that topwater wont work till temp is over 60, 55, 70, whatever. Ive done research and lots of people have caught topwater feesh as low as 45. Also the evening and morning is the only time they will come up for them also, bigtime misunderstanding.

yeah i agree i was using it all day. i have used topwater on alot of bright sunny days as well.i do think you get alot more numbers of fish in the morning and evening but quality fish during the day.

IMHO, It's more about conditions than temp or time of day. If the water is glassy and clear, it's not as likely your gonna get a bite on a reaction bate as when you have some wind ripple. There are very few absolutes in fishing though. Many times right when you think you have a lake figured out, wrong, things change and your back to the drawing board trying to figure out what conditons have changed to make the fish change their patterns. That's what I love about fishing. I mean I love catching fish, dont get me wrong, but I love challenging conditions, and having to really work at getting the fish to bite. Especially when you come up with a technique or presentation that is unlike anything you have seen or heard of, and it works. Those are the most satisfying fish to catch. Once again, this is just my opinion, and I know that fishing is a different experience for each person. But I can tell alot of you people out there are as much of a freak about fishing as I am, and that's why I love this site, I dont feel like so much of a freak....:bounce:

I will beg to differ on this one. Sure, you can, but not very often.

Sure, I have taken a lot of bass during the middle of the day, over cover, with Buzz Baits, but the key was cover.

As for temperature, if your cover, normally weeds, are there, and the bass are also there, then sure, but seldom to you find the right conditions for bass, and weeds, in 45 to 65 degree water.

I think your research needs some clarifications. I'd love to year more about it.

Did I hear you say you just fished Long Lake for the first time this year....on a previous thread or report. That's what I would like to hear more about. You can't be a bass fisherman in Spokane and not fish Long Lake. It's almost as absurd as saying you only need a spinning rod and 8# line. I guess.....

LOL, I am a transplant to Spokane, and I have so many other places to bass fish that Long Lake is just starting to perk up my interest. Actually I said it was my first time out of 9 Mile, but this was only my second trip on the lake.

I fish Elokia a lot, Rock later in the season for bass, Moses Lake, Potholes, Roosevelt, etc., and I have a secret lake I hit on Saturday that cranked out over 40 LMB between 1 and 5 pounds for me, so for me Long is just another place, nothing special.

So, SONNN, about that research, still want to hear more about it.

Carefull Desertcreek, we may start talking about reading regulations and calling people down. ROFLOL

You are welcome to come over to the dryside anytime. All you have to do is let me know when and we can work something out. We don't have a ton of big water options around Spokane but there is enogh to keep a guy busy. Send me a pm if you are serious. I will warn you in advance though. I'm not as seasoned as you might think.

I will apologize for my misuderstanding of the regulations....although I would't put my comment about not keeping LM in the catagory of "coming down on a guy...if you apologize for saying that Long Lake is nothing special. That is just plain hurtful. Right up there with saying somones kid is ugly.....I'm kidding of course. In the small (35 boats) tournament I fished on Long last month it took almost 22 pounds to win and that was with the 2 LM restriction in place. There were a dozen LM weighed over 5lbs, a couple of 6's and one SM over 6 and too many 4's too even mention. Had you been allowed to keep 5 Lm it would have taken 25#'s or better to win. We were chucking 4's all day because we already had 2 that were over 5. It is no secret but it is SPECIAL for sure. When I meet guys on the NW Bass curcuit from the other side of the state Long Lake is inevitably ends up in the conversation.

My comment about 8lb. line being absurd wasn't intended to be hurtful. I was just trying to make a point. Obviously you can fish however you want. It appeared to me that the guy was trying to figure out what he SHOULD be using vs what COULD be used...which is what you were saying. We don't know what the guy is trying to accomplish and making a bold statement like you only need ONE thing probably isn't that much help to him. Can we have a group hug now?
