Worst morning of fishing ever

Post by Nylar » Wed Jun 19, 2013 12:36 pm

well after 3 hours of sleep ( wife wouldn't shut up) i get up to go fishing before i even leave the house i blow out my knee. the knee brace goes on. leaving the house limping, i hit every stoplight between Seattle and sultan. my hour and 15 min drive turned in to almost 2 hours stopped at 4 gas stations that were closed the 5th one had coffee that was so watered down i think they reused the grounds from yesterday. got some smokes and when i lit one up they gave me menthol! ( i know i should quit. ) that's when i realized i forgot my phone.

im thinking what else could go wrong. it cant get much worse. so i finally get to my hole hiking in i twist my ankle something fierce . sit there for a few min. and push on. my first cast massive birds nest, 10 min later i get to cast again. and lose my set up. re rig everything and a good cast. the next cast i lose my gear again. this process repeats its self 4 more times. i decide to switch to a float and cast, my reel falls off. Im thinking to myself really? Could you not have just given me a flat tire at home. after everything is put back in working order. i cant get a proper cast with a float. everything keeps tangling up. to make things worse. a boat drifts by as im futzing with my stuff and takes the sucker that was sitting in my hole. [angry]

that was the last straw i decided to head home. walked back to the car. putting stuff away. i closed the back gate on the tip of my rod... wonderful! [cursing]

im now sitting at home ice on my knee and ankle, fixing the tip of my rod and making more leaders and jigs. so i can go back out on Friday morning

just thought i would share my morning with everyone.

I'm with you on the knee blowouts. I know that one and I have two braces. If youre going out Hiway 522 stop for coffee at the Beehive. That makes a bad day look better.

The way your list of follies is written is humorous. Never seem to upset with each WTF moment! And there is a list. After a day like that. I would find it hard to pick up where I left off by tying up some leaders. That would have to wait for another day. But nope, your going for it!

I have been on plenty of lakes where the fishing is tuff. But, persevere and end up scratching out a couple of limits after a long day. In that situation I am eager to get back to crack the code. But not after lack of sleep, getting hurt, breaking a rod, repeatedly loosing gear to a snag, and watching someone catch one during my misfortune.

The only thing left was loosing, locking, breaking, or sinking a key. Oh, and falling into a very cold river!

I have definitely had better days at work.......LOL!

Well... it could have been worse... if you don't mind we can take turns ending your day of fishing with a worst ending... how about "I came back and discovered tweekers had broken into my car". Ouch! (I do feel your pain)

I had a day like this last summer, played hookie from work to try out my newly aquired drift boat. Got to the launch at high bridge and realized I forgot all my tackle back in Monroe. So back to the house I go and finally get in to the water. Now this was my first trip down thus stretch and I made it through the first little rapid just fine "thus isn't so bad" I thought to my self. But then, around the next corner is a decent drop with no way around, left or right? Left or right? I'm asking my buddy left left he says but alas, too late. I bang off a big rock and get pinned sideways in the middle of the river. After we got off the rock I check out my boat and I got nice new dent in the chine for my trouble. Oh well that's boating right? Well apparently in all the commotion my jig must have came unbuttoned off of my float rod. Now this wasn't just any rod, it was my quitting smoking present to my self, an 11 foot lamiglass with a shimano citica reel. By far the nicest setup I have ever owned. So I got a jig dangling off the back of the boat bonndogging style. We get to the next rapid and I hear this strange sound and look back.... The rod is gone! Sucked right out the back of the boat snagged up in some fast water completely submerged. We put on some treble hooks and big lead and tried to snag it for about two hours, no luck. Well the fish gods will surely reward me for my sacrifice right?..........right? Nope, not a bite all day. That is my worst day fishing. But the next weekend i floated sultan to Ben Howard and took out my rage on some chinook, it was sweet.

I look at it as this is a hobby im not forced to do it. and normally get enjoyment out of it ( no wife nagging, Peace and quite) the only time to get mad is when people are doing something to me

So that's why you were asking about which line to take! Wow, that's a bummer. In lower water that run can be a bottom scraper for sure, and since it's around a blind corner with not really a lot of time to pull over and scout it going down it on your first drift could be hairy. Yea, swimming for it would also be a bad idea. Another large donation to the tackle gods! ](*,)

Yeah I wish i could afford a trip with you to learn that stretch. Being on a single income with three mouths to feed makes it tough to splurge on a guided trip. Everything I know about rowing is self taught. I do all right but would really like to see how other people handle that. Maybe one of these days...

i once caught someones terrible day a couple years ago off of alki. i was fishing for some lingcod when my pole lurched down like a snag. so i set the hook and it pulls back hard. this continues i get a little and force it up and i am fighting what feels like a giant fish that wont get off the bottom. this continues until i reach the boat. my prize winning catch.. i hooked somebodys gloomis rod and reel combo in the center eyelit some how. still to this day best fight i have ever had.

That's nothing man. Couple years ago i was pulling my boat down i-5 in a hurry for camping and banging huge donkeys at silver lake. Well my rod bag came untied and made its way from under a pedestal seat flew out of my boat got ran over by a few semis, saw my Rods and reels explode into millions of pieces. After setting up camp i launch the boat then hit walmart for rods and reels and extra line. Get back to the lake start boat and i can't shift. Only have neatural that is moving forward, ugh big engine down. Trolling motor only all weekend with crappy walmart gear. Oh yeah sold that bad luck boat, good thing i didnt bring a bananna onboard lol! Still caught fish and had a great camping trip, cant keep me down thats for sure.

Youre so so right Nylar. It is what I love to do. Catch or not I love it. I fish with both knees ,back, neck screwed up and when I get home I'm so relaxed that its worth it.Fishing is an awesome sport of relaxation for me. There is work involved but the peace and quiet along with good friends and scenery make it worthwhile.
