RE:steelhead question?
the color of the river means a lot some times but if is brown still try it u may be successful in finding a nice metal head for your troubles look at the puyallup it is dark alot and people still get fish out of it
If it looks fishy, Then fish it, If it dont look fishy, fish it anyways. <')}}}}><

RE:steelhead question?
Just got an email from the Swedester saying that there is no chrome in the rivers when they are on the drop. Repeat: stay home, after the floods, there are no fish to be had. :dwarf: Can't wait for the real deal BONICS lesson coming up.

RE:steelhead question?
Here's just a few from the 11 landed in two hours yesterday, and only one got the wood shampoo. The rest are keeping on with the cycle that is life. We'll put up the real show by this Friday. I can testify that the Swede's a good dude, and knows his shiznit. Flood waters on the drop = no fish LOL. Stay home. :dwarf:

RE:steelhead question?
i fished the ye ole pilchuck river today up by the p5000 and seen a couple of steelhead. no hits though.
i would love to fish the sky a little more cause its an awesome river but the road is friggin washed out a few miles outta index and my quad qont make it very far up there.
i wish the dang forston hole wasnt closed on the stilly cause c-post is all screwed up cause of the flood now.
i am planning on trying the nooksack one of these days and i have to make the yearly trip over to winthrop to fly fish with magnets for some steel

RE:steelhead question?
I am a steelhead novice.
I have steelhead fished twice on the sky. I use a 9ft Berkley rod. I only hooked onto one steelhead. That one fish snapped my 12lb Berkley Vanish flourocarbon leader. Appearently my drag was sent on a little too tight and I wasn't ready for the fish. By the time I tried to adjust my drag it was too late. I have watched others on the river that hold onto their reel so their drag can't run and they still land their fish without following the fish downstream or snapping their line. It didn't make sense how they could do that and I can't. I haven't gone ever since.
Swede mention that line makes a big difference. I was wondering if this is really true. Maybe I have some crappy line. I heard my cousin saying that the guys on the river were using 8-10 lb lines. It must be the lines. The guys on the river didn't really want to give me their secret.
Any suggestions?

RE:steelhead question?
Get rid of Berkley vanish, that stuff sucks. It doesn't have a good knot strength. I use to use it all the time for bass fishing and consistently break at the knot. Try P-line fluoro.Iceman wrote:I am a steelhead novice.

RE:steelhead question?
I would switch to Maxima chameleon it is the tried and true salmon/steelhead line. I also agree that p-line is a very good line never used it on the river but for big bass it worked great I like 12 lb test in both.Iceman wrote:

RE:steelhead question?
I don't care for braided line, fluoro carbon or mono.
