I have never fished the Skookumchuck before and am thinking about going down on saturday. I was wondering how the bank access was, and maybe how fishing has been?

Thank you,

Crank,

There is good bank access by the hatchery all the way up to the dam. From what I hear the fishing has been pretty good up there and I have been told that they are recycling steelhead back through. I have fished there often, this is my first year fishing and unfortunately I have yet to get a steelie, but I too will be down there on sat. You seem to be killin the steelies I wouldn't mind hookin up with ya down there I could always use some tips!

There is a Key Bank and a Couple Credit Unions in Tenino for you to access. I am not sure if they are open on the weekends, but I am sure they will have an ATM. Not sure about the fishing. Hope this helps. Go Cougs!

I've been twice this season, last month. There are lots of places to access the skook, from centralia at the mouth all the way up to the dam. There are about five miles of river at the top that are all bank access areas, google maps it and you can't miss it. When I was a kid we used to drift the sectionon from schafer park to the mouth, or the park on main street centralia, there is a bunch of good holding water on that section. Riverside park I think it is. At the end of g street in centralia is good too. But unless you want to do more homework, just go up to the top. You can't really get lost, follow skookumchuck road until it ends.

Moldy silvers for dayys. I caught probably 8 silvers on eggs and my friends each caught 4 or 5, Everbody was fishing really slow water not typical steelhead water. we fished seams and fished behind silvers but never hooked any steel. we saw 2 caught by one guy both ugly one about 12 and one caught by a girl that was snagged and about 20" she thought it was a trout and it was released. there were about 500 people there too.

Hey I was at the top and saw those two fish too. They were pretty dark, but one of 'em was pretty darn big, biggest steelhead I've seen in a while. But most river's steel dwarfs the average hatchery brat from the sky where I usually fish this year. I saw about ten steelhead and hooked some silver too. At my usual secret spot there were about four or five of 'em but they were lockjawed, and we left after a couple hours of throwing eggs straight in front of their faces only for 'em to scoot out of the way. I thought everyone would be at home for footbal, but I was wrong.

Yeah one of the ones he had must have been at least 12 but it was pretty dark, you say you saw ten others caught on saturday?

well there was a guy that had a BIG fish today. It was pushing 18-19 pounds and the other was 10. I asked him if he weighed it and he just shrugged. He'd feild gutted it already. He was the only one with steel when I got to the top.
