i feel like talkin about steellhead--- how people are doing, where there going, how and what there using to catch them, good steelhead stories pictures what ever!! if some thinks the same thing reply here!!

ill actually go ahead and start i went steelhead fishing to weekends ago and caught 1 now im kinda goin crazy wanting to go again im goin in 2 more weeks the 1 i caught was 23 inches 5 lbs but this guy i work with told me about his steel head trip hey went for 3 days caught 5 hatchery and 3 wild took the 5 hatchery home the biggest one was 31 inch he doesnt have a scale!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be interested in trying for some steelheads, but I have no idea what to use and where to go around here (southern Snoho county). I'd also be interested in sea-run cutthroat as well (that's if they are still around).

I have heard quite a bit about this fish. I have never had nor taken the opportunity to fish for them. However, I intend to make an attempt to get some fishing in this winter and see what I get.

A good site with a wealth of information is Steelhead University. I have just gotten started looking through some of their information and have just scratched the surface.

I have always heard they are hard to catch and allusive, but I caught one while fishing for Silvers in the Carbon river. So I don't know if that is true. I would not mind catching one again, that is for sure.

I would love to catch one...I hear they put up one heck of a fight. Even heard it to rival that of a Silver or King...don't know though.

I remember when I first starting working at my current job, I was sitting talking to the owner in his office. He is an avid outdoorsman and loves to fly fish for everything. On his wall behind his desk he has a Steelhead he caught many, many years ago. I guess a time and place you could keep natives because it still has its adipose fin. Anyrate, this thing is huge. It's got to be at least three feet or better. The way it's mounted, the tail fin is fanned out and this thing has got to be at least ten or twelve inches across.

To make a long story short, he was extremely proud of this fish. Not seeing fish like that in Kansas, I told him "Nice looking trout!". Then the lights dimmed, the room filled with this eerie fog, and the fish kind of lit up with this ominous glow. Then came the story of the mystical creature Washingtonians know as the fabled Steelhead. Not really, but he explained what it was, and how he caught it...if I remember correctly he even had pictures of the river where he caught it.

I have wanted to catch one since then, but have never taken the time to. One of these days...

I want to talk about Steelhead. I plan on targeting them once I get word where they are. I'm a total noob. So I hope to learn something. I got some marabou jigs off ebay in anticipation.

Occasionaly off season steelies are caught while fishing for salmon annd trout. If you want a chalange try seduceing a chrome bright native steelhead. Hatcheries are good fish, and you should be proud of your first steelhead, mine was a hatchery, but the natives are bigger fater and much smarter.

As for the fight, pound for pound, a native steelhead is better than a King or a Silver. A chrome 8lb native steelhead vs. a chrome 8lb King or a chrome 8lb silver, the steelhead will definatly win.

i caught my steelie by lower granit dam using a red bucktail jig with red dyed shrimp using a very large slip bobber, im goin again to same area weekend after next im goin to try the same thing but also try some new stuff like blue fox spinners and wiggle warts i hear these both work well if any1 knows more about these lures like size color ect plz let us all know that would be cool or anyother stuff that works too is cool

Blue Fox spinners......

I have found the #5 is the best size for Steelys.
Best color has been Purple, but you can try whatever you feel would work best.
Spoons also have worked, Colors being Orange and Lime Green.

I want to talk steelhead.

I have never caught a steelhead. I know you can't believe it, (fishnislife has never caught a steelhead?) but at least I can admit it.
I have been reading up on and planning for a couple steelie trips this coming winter. I have a ton of info. but I will never admit to being an expert at fishing. Soooo, if you guys want to drop a couple pointers my way or even PM me with some productive spots so I don't waste my time out on the rivers, I would be very grateful and I promise to make you proud.

I have tenative plans to head to La Push and fish the Quillayute and Bogachiel Rivers. Any advice would be appreciated. Even suggestions on other rivers even closer would be great. Thanks in advance.

Let's get winter steelhead fishing started!

Pink worms are probably the hottest new technique to fish for the steelies...Jigs are always a standard, corkies and yarn with some sort of bait will also get looks..Eggs, sandshrimp, etc.

Spoons/Spinners will work but are more of a summerrun technique because they are easier to fish in lower, slower, clearer water....

Aye...been reading that too. Just for kicks I tried a setup similar on the Puyallup when I was fishing for Pinks. Didn't work well because everytime I cast out...something would hit it within a few seconds and rip my worm apart. More than likely because I didn't have it setup correctly, but that in itself told me there was some interest in the rig. Definitely something the fish hasn't seen with all the corkies and yarn floating about. I will definitely try again, but will set it up differently so to avoid the worm scrunching on the line and loosing half the worm.

I am interested in catching some Steelies as well! They are in the Skykomish right? So what is the rig for the pink worms? What is the best way to fish for them? Alright I'll start there. I have also been reading info at Steelhead U.

Alright there are many tecniques for steelhead. But drifting eggs is used the most by anglers for one simple reason, they consistantly work. Don't get me wrong pink worms, jigs and other lures can be the hot ticket some days but eggs with work well most of the time. If you are useing atificial then you should bait/scent your lure it makes a big difference.

The sky ans well as other snonhomish tributarys get good runs of hatchery steelhead.
