Well it looks like the Puyallup is getting good. Im heading out there Saturday, gonna start at the soccer fields/fruit stand. I don't know if fish are going to be that high up yet in good force. Im taking some guys that have never been salmon fishing and would like to get them some fish. Where else on the river could we fish with good bank access and a good chance at catching fish? Directions? Thanks.

I fished Fred Meyer today, the fish are there. They were colored up too, so they've been there a while. I got 8 in two hours. I like fishing down low, where the fish are brighter.

I live just down from the mouth of the Carbon and the fish are here, but not in force yet and they are dark.... there are a bunch of kings in the hatchery at voights now too....
Last year I was down at the soccer fields upstream from the mayhem all by myself minding my own business and some jerk brought a guy that couldn't even cast and stood right next to me, it took all of 1 cast to get our lines tangled and the "Jerk" didn't even bother to help or give the newb a lesson, he just kept fishing and let the newb tangle me up three more times.... I was so pissed I wanted to strangle the guy and he was just a total ass about the whole deal! I knew the young man who had no experience fishing whatsoever wasn't at fault, he was just learning, but the "Jerk" should have coached the young man before they ever came down there!
I brought it up because you said you were bringing someone who hadn't fished for salmon before... I am sure you will prepare them for "battlezone" , but I had to vent a little because it never fails that some jerk will come in with a newb that they promised to take salmon fishing and then just let them fend for themselves when they totally have no idea what they are doing.

What is everyone using on Puyallup? corkies and yarn? what colors are they biting? Might hit it up friday afternoon after I get this wasp nest out of my attic in the morning. Thanks in advance for everyone's fishing spots and suggestions.

I'm a noob...so take my advice how you will...but I got this advice from some vets who helped me out this past Tuesday and I hooked into fish after following their advice.
Either a pink or orange #10 corky above your hook...no yarn...4-6 feet of leader...about 3/4 oz of weight. It worked.
We were south of the Old Cannery in Sumner off Houston Rd. You'll see the cars parked along the side of the road. Hop over the road barrier, you'll find a trail going down the enbankment, then find a trail through the field. Up and over the walking trail...to find another trail through the trees down to the bank of the river. LOL...got all that?
I have a buddy who works on Levee Rd. He said he doesn't like it because the guys wade out too far (chest deep, almost the middle of the river) and you pretty much have to go out there too because you have to be in line with them or you will snag them. They all cast across the river and neglect the side channel closest to them.
Take this for what it's worth...came from guys far more experienced than myself and I watched them pull in fish after fish.

Pretty slow this morning. I bonked one chrome hen pink. That was it. Saw only a few others caught. Some colored up a bit. TONS of people starting to filter in. One piece of advice, if there are people fishing in a line, please do not go stand on the other side of the river and cast at them. Thank you
now that thats said, Hopefully the run starts hard soon!
