N.Idaho creeks
I hope I'm not breaking any rules but those of us who live in Eastern Washington can drive a short distance to fish in North Idaho. I was curious if anyone had any good suggestions on any creeks I coulds try for Trout? Thanks to all... FISH ON!::

Just make sure you get a license. If you don't they get to take all your gear, your car, boat and everything in it. they get to give you a ticket, then you get to go to court and pay a lot of money and you might...... might get your gear back.

The north fork of the Cd'A river is a good trout water, but get a fair amount of pressure. Id license is $85 a year or $8 bucks a day for non residence

Hey sanfrandan, were you just thinking of just catch and release or just catching a few for dinner??? The restrictions here are just terrible, which is one reason I really don't trout fish streams anymore. I use to fish at smaller creeks alot when I was younger. If your catch and release, The CDA river is ok, The St. Joe is better. The tributaries may be better now with the hotter weather. If your looking for some to put in a pan, its anyones choice. Most of the regs. are 2 fish limit with size restrictions. (Unless your going to catch hatchery fish 6 fish there, with a 6 fish total limit. It may be better to hike into a mountain lake and try for brookies (tasty little things).

Answering your question Basshunter, I eat a few trout and smoke some also. Smoking is tough thou my rolling papers barely fit around them. Ha Ha. If you have any suggestions on where some good small streams for brookies are. I love catching Brookies and live in Spokane. Thanks

The lower west branch of priest river is a nice stream that produces some delicious brookies. PM me for more info.

wow, $85 for an Idaho non-resident license. I complain about Oregon's $60 non-resident.

The upper North Fork of the CDA River fished superbly a few days ago. We went way up top, several miles above where the floaters, tubers and swimmers hang out, to nearly where the road goes from asphalt to dirt. It was one helluva drive, nearly two hours from Spokane, but was definitely worth it. The river was low but was cold and clean. We saw only two other fly fishermen. The cutthroat were hanging in the fast riffles at the tops of holes and were nailing large dry patterns with reckless abandon! Other could be found hanging near undercut/brushy banks. Deep, slow holes were best fished with nymphs. I was surprised at the size of the fish we were getting, only a few were under 12" with the average being 13" or so and the largest two being 16" and 17". The fishing, combined with the scenery, made for an awesome experience!
