I guess you should tell that to the hundreds of trout I've caught with dodgers and wedding rings.

I use small dodgers when fishing for trout and kokanee but I make sure to check the action of everything next to the boat at trolling speed before sending it down to attract fish. Put a dodger, attached to your line but without a lure behind it, in the water and see how it moves. When you put a lure behind it the movement is significantly reduced, the more drag, the less movement. Dodgers and flashers can do two things. One, is to impart action to a lure that has none of its own. Second, is to attract fish from far away to your lure. A spinner has its own action so the dodger's function would be as an additional attractant. You will also note that you can effect the dodger's action by lengthening or shortening the leader to the lure and adjusting your trolling speed. I typically use a 3' leader behind my 4" dodger when using spinners and adjust as necessary. I tie my wedding ring style lures with 1.5' of leader to a small swivel, I then tie on additional leader to the swivel to get my desired length behind the dodger,flasher, popgear, etc. This way you don't have to re-tie your spinners to adjust leader length and it helps reduce line twist.

Big lakes with big water I'd be willing to bet it doesn't work like that. You need something to bring them in close to see that bitty little spinner.

I use the big wedding rings with the big blades... Black lake in Thurston Co. isn't that small neither is Summit..... Let alone all the big reservoirs we fished down in Oregon:-"

I didn't say that the dodgers don't work with wedding rings I said they would not help if they were put close enough to the wedding ring that the spinner "swims" back and forth. they probably do work for attracting trout from further away. I personally don't think pop gear, dodgers and flashers are fair for freshwater. but that's just my opinion...

Forget about the trout, its August durring an odd year. There are MILLIONS of the states largest member of trout family (or smallest salmon, cant really tell lol) waiting to be caught . Leave the wedding rings at home and fill your pockets with pink bombs and pink hoochies.

Hi all,
just thought I would throw my .02 in here.
As far as using wedding rings, if you get a chance, use a "smiley blade" with it. It adds a little wobble to the ring and is very effective. I also use heavier mono or floro line, 10 - 14lb.
When tying your hooks, start your wraps away from the split in the eye. The diagram shown would start it against the gap and could fail.(I hold the hook with the right hand and wrap with the left.)
