Mayfield lake?

Post by bp11139 » Sun Aug 17, 2008 9:10 pm

This upcoming weekend I'll be taking a family camping trip down to Mayfield lake. Ive never been to the lake nor have I fished it. I was curious of what type of fish I should be targeting. I know the tigers are the main attraction but honestly Ill probably be in my pontoon boat and that might be a tad over whelming! Oh yeah, I also have not a clue in the world how to even fish for them. :bom: Is the fishing good for any other fish right now on the lake? If not is there a better lake close by? Im also taking a good childhood friend down there with me visiting from South Dakota. I would love to be able to get him into some fish.

On the way back to seattle we will be fishing the Mason county area. Lost lake was a lake we always fished growing up. Does anyone know if the lake is producing anything right now? Is it too hot right now? Also does anyone know if there is access to Stump Lake close to Lost lake in the Mason county?

Thanks in advance for anyones input! anything helps!

If you end up fishing at any other places when you're down at Mayfield Lake you can try out Swofford Pond since youre on a pontoon boat. It has some nice bass, catfish, bluegill, perch, and trout from what I know of. There's also Riffe Lake down there, or if you want to drive another 30 minutes you could try out Silver Lake.

Speaking of Stump Lake: I have fished it for largemouth bass and did quite well. I have an overview and photos on the Stump Lake Index. Photo will show a rough access area that should work for a pontoon boat. Tight Lines BJ
A nice bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once.

I hit up Stump Lake a few weeks back, and while I did not have any luck, I can verify that the rough access is more than adequate for a pontoon boat. There were also several people fishing from smaller aluminums that did not seem to have any problem launching or pulling back out.

I assume you are talking about a huge pontoon boat.....if so you will have a lot of trouble launching at Swofford. I also believe it is electric motors only. Mayfield is best for trolling around a worm and catching trout all day long. I have seen the muskie many times, but they are very shy to bite. Riffe can be awesome if you know what you are doing. That lake is hit or miss. Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys. Well this weekend I will be doing most of my fishing in mayfield. Ha today at sportco I figured Id pick up a few muskie lures. I know its not that easy but who knows, I MIGHT get lucky. So it sounds like trolling with a worm is the way to go for trout? Hows the bass fishing on the lake?

Don't forget your oversized leaders! Even the Walmart steel leaders are better than no leader at all!! Good luck! I have never seen a bass out of there. but the smallies should be somewhere since it's down river from Rifffe Lake. The pike minnow are the only other fish I have gotten besides the Tiger Musky, and there are a ton of Suckers in there too.
