Sprague Lake - 1st trip

Post by jf0 » Mon Jun 14, 2010 6:02 am

Hi everyone - we will be going to Sprague Lake this weekend (4 days). I have never fished this lake but I understand it is mostly a Trout lake. So I would like to catch trout of course, but also large mouth bass. I will be fishing from a boat, so I am wondering what techniques work well on that lake for both trout and LMB? I have a ton of bass gear but I do not fish for trout often, will I be good to use some of my bass gear for trout or should I really use specific trout lures?

Just looking for any advice for this lake and local shops please!

Great way to start out would be to search fishing reports for Sprague Lake(top of page select reports, then read reports). The lake is in two counties Adams and Lincoln, so check both locations. Flying fishing, bait off bottom, trolling. I have seen all these work great on the lake.

Largemouth bass have been stocked in Sprague Lake, but I doubt any are of catchable size, yet. However, the trout are HUGE with 5-6lbs-er's being very common. Try trolling small crankbaits or still fishing with corn or a marshmellow and worm. If you plan to eat the trout; clean them ASAP and put them on ice. Don't drag them around to turn white on a stringer or you will have non-eatable fish.
