If you are into Bullhead Catfish, some good size fish (for Bullheads) are being caught at Long Lake right now right near dark. The road past Tum Tum that skirts the lake is a good spot according to the people I talked to. They indicated the fish were running 12 to 16 inches, and a 16 inch Bullhead is a good fish.
I did not fish for them myself, but .........

This time of year they are catching Channel cats at the mouth of the Palouse river. Or thats what the rumors have been.
They catch them from the bank along with the boat fisher.
A: Men
B: Women
C: Person
Not sure what the correct term is anymore.
Awfully good chance I will be floating next week working on my " Fishin Skills" on the Palouse. This weekend is a Bait run to catch some sunfish for cut bait.

There really are not too many options for catfish that close unless you count bullheads, but Eloika lake has them as do most of the other lakes. The Snake river/Yakima are outside of your 2hr range but have excellent channel cat fishing.

I'd venture to guess that Lyons Ferry is very close to a 2 hour flight maybe a shade more but not bad. Central Ferry would also be in the time window. You could fish around the grain elevators and catch some cats.

I have had good luck fishing the park where Hwy 12 crosses the mouth of the Walla Walla river in Pasco. I have heard fishing the Palouse river (almost anywhere) can be very good. I have yet to try it myself. I am looking for places closer to Spokane myself. Good Luck.

I saw where they may have the funding to reopen Lyons Ferry park that makes a close hike for the beach fisherman. Also a very short run for the boat guys as well.

Roosevelt is worth a try. If you don't hook a whisker face, you have a good chance at a bunch of other species.
