Can someone tell me if Lake Desire near Renton has gas motor restrictions on it?

According to King County boating regulations fact sheet,Lake Desire does not allow gas motors,but they do allow electric motors.

Whats up with the two lakes that dont allow electric motors?

Seems odd if your allowed to put in, why not an eletric?

Usually has to do with shallow lakes with lots of sediment, it falls under water management quality.

So on lakes with no gas powered motors allowed can I use my usual 17' boat with 40hr outboard, but just use the trolling motor on the bow? Or can the outboard not even be in the water?

You can't have any gas motor on your boat anywhere.... raised out of the water, in the water, in a grocery bag, anywhere.

Timely thread and response, I was literally going to ask this same thing last week, and never got around to it. I've always been confused as to whether it was legal to put in with an outboard trimmed all the way up, but only use electric, i've seen many people do it, but I never have, since I just wasn't sure.

we've had this arguement before - on Rattlesnake lake no less. Yup, no gas motor means not even on the boat.

I had the same thought last year.

Lots of good info in the old thread. A number of people really disected the rules, which were a bit confusing. Looks like they clarified the rules a bit in this years Rules Book.

Key phraseology here is defined as "attached" in the regs, so any "floating device" with a motor attached is prohibited in lakes where motors are not allowed. An exception to this is some selective gear lakes allow an electric trolling motor, but you may not have an internal combustion motor attached to the "floating device".

As always, be sure to read the regs for the specific body of water you intend to fish - no need to get a citation because you didn't know.

Just to point it out though... You cannot depend on the fishing regs. to tell you if a body of water allows whatever type of motor. They will tell you in some cases, like on selective gear lakes, fly only lakes,, stuff like that.
But what most people don't realize is that city ordinances (sp?) effect most of our urban lakes here in Western WA.
When you go to a local lake, there will usually be a sign posted saying what it allows. About 2 years ago I got into my own HUGE inquirey as to finding a community (local) govt. source that could give me a listing of as many lakes as possible. Phone calls took me from the Sherrif's dept. to I think the beareu of land Management, to the WDFW, and many other agencies. Nobody in all these govt. agencies could give me a defining answer as to just the question of (WHO) controls these things, and where is their list. The WDFW even told me that many of their statements in the regs. regarding gas motors on certain lakes, was specificly to tell people that they couldn't (Fish) from a gas motor operated boat. They said not to consider the fishing regs. as the tell all on what a lake allows in regards to motors.

It's an area of murky water so to speak. I operate by what is posted at the lake. Most urban lakes will have something posted... but as you get out of the metro. area you will find less rules posted on little country lakes.

It would interesting to know if there was a lake that allowed gas motors, but the regs say no fishing from a floating device with a gas motor attached on that lake.

Just wondering if there is one.

About this motor stuff, in Snohomish Co I was told by WDFW that lake Loma was the only lake in the county where you couldn't have any
motor of any kind- neither electric or gas. But you could go from a gas motor to electric depending what lake you were on, without having
to remove your gas motor, only having to keep it up completely out of the water.
When I asked about the "equipped with rule", I was told it was part of "special regs-selective fishery" and not to do with the rules pertaining to the use of motors on the non-selective lakes.
