I can't believe I just ran across this topic. I grew up not far from the place that makes these and used them A LOT! They're most common use, like most people have said, is jigging while ice fishing. I have caught walleye, pike, perch, trout, lake herring, smelt, and burbot on them using this method. Sometimes tipped with bait, sometimes not. I have also had a lot of luck with them casting for salmon. When the humpy's would run this was the goto lure for shore fishing and they would also produce king's and silvers.
