Re: Coho / Chinook how you fish for it
I believe it was forecasted to be 2ft or less today. Around 10 the wind was supposed to pick up. I get marine forecasts here: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/zone/west/sewmz.htm
For accurate wind readings and also wind forecast I use an app called Wind Alert for android/ apple phones. That way you can see exactly when the wind is supposed to pick up and get off the water before it gets rough.

wsucoug93... When sling blades come out of the package they are straight with a very slight cup shape at the leader end. About 2 inches up from the cup i put about a 20 to 45 degree bend the same way the cup is facing. This enables the dodger to be trolled faster with a better action. Good luck!
Re: Coho / Chinook how you fish for it
I fished between Richmond beach and Shilshole today and couldn't keep the small fish off my gear. I was high grading and tossed back anything less than 20". I came home with 3 crabs. On a positive note, the fish I picked up were absolutely stuffed with bait. They'll be packing on the weight over the next month or so. I even fished inside the crab pots in 30' to 40' of water and found that seems to be where the shaker blackmouth are hanging out.

gottidave...I started out 2 miles north of the Wreck, trolled south and finished up right off the Wreck. There were nets flying everywhere but the fish were small so I just yanked them in the boat, didn't use the net.

Re: Coho / Chinook how you fish for it
I've been fishing from the beach here on Whidbey. Some Silvers being cought up to 12#‘s but my largest was last Sat. morning...7 lbs.
Just throwing Pink Buzz Bombs with a White Hootchie on the hook got me 2 Silvers and 2 pinks that day. I'm averaging abot 3 fish a week right now but I don't go every day either.
I don't like puting the boat in the water when it's just me (and it usually is hard for me to find someone to go on short notice) or if I only have a 3-4 hours to fish so it stays in the barn more than it gets used. (Anyone want to buy a really nice Arima?)
Once the sizes of the Silvers picks up some I'll probably begin using the boat a little more.

Re: Coho / Chinook how you fish for it
If you are trolling the following may be helpful...
I do pretty good at MA-9 for silvers, late september has treated me pretty good. Last season I did well with coho killers. This year hootchies are catching fishing.
Really, you just need to read all you can, ask questions, and get out there and fish. Try not to get discouraged if you strike out.
When you catch a fish, gut it and look at what it's been feeding on. Then try to mimic the bait it's been feeding on. If the fish has been feeding on small bait, use a coho killer, if it's long bait use a hootchie, large bait perhaps a spoon is the ticket.
Another thing I've learned is tie your spoons, coho killers, hootchies with a strong fluorocarbon. I use 40 pound fluorocarbon to ties up my leaders. It gives the bait extra action that these crazy coho like. Short leaders 26-36 inches in length but I would fish the short end of the spectrum. I like my GPS speed to be 2.5 to 3.0. A little faster is ok too.
Hope this helps
Good luck out there!

Coho / Chinook how you fish for it (Fishing the Stilly?)
Is Craig's suggestion for a "Herring Aid" meant for us older folks? *lol* If any other locals would like to bank fish the Stilly near Haller, please give a shout. Retired or early morning weekdays preferred. Thanks. (((((Fish On)))))

Outdoor Emporium and Sportco carry/sell them.
Re: Coho / Chinook how you fish for it
I stopped by at Outdoor Emporium today and they don't carry the Shasta Tackle stuff anymore.G-Man wrote:Outdoor Emporium and Sportco carry/sell them.
no good luck there.
Re: Coho / Chinook how you fish for it
Seriously!? I was there about a month ago and they still had plenty of the bigger 8" Sling Blades. I distinctly recall chiding the sales staff over the outrageous price they were charging for them.

Lots on ebay, not much better prices but no driving or sales tax.
