Barbless Hooks?
Is it still a rule that you have to use barbless hooks to fish for salmon? I'm located in Area 11.

RE:Barbless Hooks?
It's been barbless hooks for salmon for the last 20+ years in Puget Sound. So, the answer to your question is "yes".fisherhall wrote:Is it still a rule that you have to use barbless hooks to fish for salmon? I'm located in Area 11.
You not only have to use barbless hooks for salmon, but also barbless now for all bottomfish in Puget Sound. Not only must they be barbless hooks, but they must also be barbless single-point hooks in Puget Sound (no treble hooks) when fishing for salmon.
The only exception to barbless hooks for salmon is when you're fishing for them in rivers. Usually, there is a non-buoyant lure restriction, which permits barbed hooks.

S_E_G,
I didn't know it also applied to bottom fish in the Sound. Good info, thanks.

Here's the snippet from page 102 of the 2008 regs (marine area rules):Dave wrote:S_E_G,

Dave
HOOK AND LINE ANGLING - Unless noted
differently, only one line with up to 2 hooks is
allowed. Barbless hooks are required for all
species in Marine Areas 5-13, except forage
fish jig gear. When fishing for SALMON in Marine
Areas 1-13, only single-point hooks may be used.
