From what I have read and seen on many websites the suppose 2011 puget sound pink run will be currently between 7 million and 42 million! That would fill up the Student Activity Center at my school! Humpy fishing is already buzzing around since December!

Those numbers look cool, but that would actually be bad for other salmon. Keep every pink you legally can guys!

massive numbers of pinks should do wonders for other salmon & steelhead in the watershed. all the dead pinks leech all sorts of nutrients to the river in addition to providing a food source for the fry of other species. plus they'll plug the tribal nets and hopefully lower their catch on kings and early run silvers.

Sorry but where in the world did you get 42 million? Even 7 million is A LOT of fish. To put things into perspective, an estimated 5 million came back to the Sound in 2009.

Sorry, it's quite the opposite. That works in the river, but as soon as they are in open water, the other species suffer because the pinks have cleaned house on the food supplies.

2009 was an incredible season. I remember the fishing constantly swimming into my legs as I was in the river wading/fishing. I couldn't imagine seeing even MORE?!

I found this article predicting about 6 million:

**********************

Between now and then, state biologists and negotiators will meet with their tribal counterparts to discuss proposals for the upcoming fishing seasons. The discussions will be based on the just-released run forecasts of 5.98 million pinks, 143,450 coho and 398,000 chinook.

I read what they said for 2010 11,000 coho for the Puyallup... only 1143 made it to the the Voights Creek hatchery. Were the rest of those from the tribal hatchery? They closed the Puyallup and Carbon because of the low Coho return.
