Hey guys taking the family camping on the 4th of july through the 7th. Want to hear your suggestions on where to go east of the mountains. Needs to be family oriented. Also has to have good bass fishing for me and trout for the kids. I have a 10ft livingston with an 8hp motor and a trolling motor. Not to big of a boat so some where that the boat can handle. I know almost all the lakes at this time have jet skies and water skiers which is ok if I have some places to hide. Much appreciated guys.

You wont be disapointed with Mar Don. I am acctually going there next weekend. Coulee Playland isnt bad either, but Mar Don has more to offer. Either way your looking at 2 really productive lakes, durring the peak of the season.

potholes has better small boat hiding spots like lind coulee and will have alot less jet ski's and wake board/ski boats. But I have banks dialed in for smallmouth and walleye I know the when and where there. Fyi check the post on potholes for the huge catfish guy's have been catching

You get them big cats near the spillways.I got reeled a couple times on large cats or possibly Burbots.Catfish kinda remind me of a dogfish fight. I have to agree with others on lake conditions with a smaller boat.Banks can be very large on a 5 gallon gastank.Plus at Potholes the wind isnt as severe. I've been tossed around Banks in my 16' Smokercraft.

Yeah! Mardon's sweet.
As far as how I've done there(been going for 10 yrs) to get trout AND bass
From Mardon, troll towards the dunes then fish the edge of the dunes, up to Crab Creek, you'll catch anything and everything towards the dunes :compress: Even those cats =)
The benefit with the dunes is if it starts looking like your playing "Deadliest Catch" you can take cover in the islands

The beauty of Mar Don is not having to launch the boat everytime you just want to go fish for an hour or so.I try to reserve dock space.Ive caught well right off their dock.
