I believe that Marc is correct, it is a juvenile rainbow trout. Once it gets a bit older, the larger markings (parr marks) will fade and it will look like your typical rainbow. I will say that for an alpine lake, it is a good sized juvi and quite fat to boot!

Not in my opinion.

Mike, cutts and hybrids thereof normally have their jaw line extend past the eye. The fish you caught definitely has a rainbow sized mouth and subsequently the jaw line stops at the eye.

This could just be from limited experience, but I've noticed cutthroats, and cuttbows, have much longer jaws than rainbows.

Most assuredly a Juvenal Rainbow, with Parr Marks. I suggest that this is probably a yearling.

If I am not mistaken, par marks show up on many different juveniles and disappear as the fish grows older. Notice the EB above, it also has these marks.

I noticed that as well, a real fatty. It wasn't bad the day I went up but other Alpine Lake trips this summer, yup, lot's of bugs to feed on up there.
