Canada Pike Here We Come!!!!

Post by Lucius » Mon May 07, 2012 7:57 pm

Well, the day is almost here (24 days and counting) and it still seems so far away. I am heading to the far lands of the north to see how well the pike fishing is in Canada and if the Washington/Idaho Pike are still anything like their relatives to the north!!! I will be taking lots of photos and videos of the whole trip as we will be up there for a full week. I will post once I get back.

On a side note, Pike, Inc. is almost there. We are finalizing the Logo hopefully this week and I just received the software I needed to complete the founding documents and I owe it all to those dedicated pike fisherman that took part in the tournaments this past February and March down here Colorado, not to mention a few dedicated Pike lovers from the great state of washington and you know who you are. Once the Logo gets finalized I will post up here not to mention when the club is official!!! Good luck out there and tight lines!! :salut: =D> [thumbsup]

Well T Minus 4 Days and counting till Pike Heaven in Canada! Hopefully the story will be a little bit better than the stories I have been reading out of the PO River. I still can't believe what has happened and how such a great fishery has been just destroyed. Oh well, guess that is why my money will be going to the Canadian's Ahe! Look forward to seeing everyone when we get back and fishing a few days in Idaho with the Pike crew and sharing the stories of how things went.

Hopefully everyone will make reservations for next year and we can all enjoy getting to Canada together and hooking into some Monster Pike. Well gotta go finish last minute things with getting the boat ready, clothes packed, and gear put together. Be back in a few weeks with plenty of pictures, and hopefully some video to let everyone know how we did.

Hey everybody, so we are finally back from our trip to Saskatchewan, Canada at Last Mountain Lake up at G & S Marina. It was everything we were hoping for and more! For the trip, we caught 84 Northern Pike total between 3 people. The average Pike was between 32 to 36 inches and 4 Northerns over 40 inches were caught with the biggest being 42.5 inches with a 17 inch girth and weight is estimated to be about 21 or 22 lbs give or take. A couple of 39.5 inch Northerns were also caught, as well as a ton of 36, 37, and 38 inchers! Be ready for some serious fights and make sure to have good jaw spreaders and long pliers, the longer the better as we were fortunate to have onboard. For anyone interested in fishing Last Mountain Lake in Saskatchewan, Canada it is certainly worth the drive and it is easy access with a boat. Best of all the Price with 3 to 4 people is very reasonable and inexpensive. Also for anyone wanting to bring a boat they have a very nice ramp at G & S Marina which is 4 lanes with docks, the cabins are small, but can easily fit 4 people each and Regina (Capital of Saskatchewan) is about a 30 to 40 minute drive. A HUGE THANKS to Rob and Donna Schulz, they are Great company! The Pike Fishing is only going to get better since they make sure anything 30 inches or over is released. Also the Walleye Fishing is great too, an average Walleye is 10 lbs at about 29 inches which the Prince of Pike AKA Boat Side can vouch for. I tried attaching pictures but it will not go thru at the moment, I will have to see if I can get it uploaded on a separate post.

Now that sounds like a good trip. Havn't fished Saskatchewan but made numerous trips to Alberta.
If you or anyone else ever gets the chance, check out Keho and the Waterton Lakes in southwest Alberta.
Its actually not to long of a drive and good scenery.
Looking forward to some pics.

To add to what Nate highlighted Nate ended up catching the Biggest at 42.5" along with a 40.5" pike (they were actually back to back fish for him). I caught a 42" and a 40.5" and "Sidehook" caught a 39.5" for his biggest (just missing trophy status by .5")

He also forgot to mention I got skunked the first day....3 spit the lure, but I still didn't get any in the boat.

Ok here come the photos....lots and lots. The video will be much later as there is almost 1 hour of footage and I have to edit....oh and lots of cursing on the video...opps :-"

you will see blood on the upper teeth of the 40.5...that is my blood from my finger. She inhaled the lure and I actually ended up pulling the lure through her gills will minimal damage to her and she swam off after some reviving.

Now that's the kind of trip that vacations are made for!
It doesn't look like an issue judging by the background but did you guys have problems with wind? I know the winds can be brutal in that part of Canada at various times of the year.
Nice job on the northerns!

We were blown off the water for 2 days...it should have been 3 but we gave it a go just to realize that the fishing wasn't that great to get all soaked and mad.....felt like we were on the ocean.

It's amazing what a fishery can turn into when you just let nature run its course. Very healthy, BIG fish. And A LOT of them!!

Amazing photos. I can't begin to tell you all the thoughts that are going through my head right now, other than that I gotta get up there. The in fisherman show was correct about that lake. It is truly an outstanding dirve to destination, and I will go there some day soon.

Thanks for sharing the photos.
