a site for the rough fish (carp, suckers, tench, etc.)
a site for the rough fish (carp, suckers, tench, etc.)
there needs to be a site for these so called trashfish. they are fished world-wide and many have caught at least one. its been asked to have a site in other forums and i plan on talking about catching and eating these fish in the future.
RE:a site for the rough fish (carp, suckers, tench, etc.)
This isnt a bad idea. I have always wanted to try and eat some of these species and get tips on how one might go about catching them. If they could lump a trash fish/squawfish rewards fishery together, it would make a good section.

That would be great in my opinion. I'd love help catching carp and bounty fish.

We ate a couple Tench recently. The meat was a light pinkish-orange color that reminded me of shrimp. It had a light delicate flavor and was actually quite good.
We had never even seen a Tench before this summer so we had no idea how to clean or cook it, so we filleted and deep fried it. We didn't know if the meat along the lateral line was good or not either. It looked questionable so we removed it. The fish were rather bloody inside compared to other fish. And after filleting out all the bones, there wasn't much meat left. Two 15 inch fish yielded about as much meat as 3-4 average sized perch.
But what little meat we had was excellent eating. If the meat along the lateral line is ok ?? we could of had 1/3 more meat. I would definitely eat them again if someone else does all the prep work. And they do put up a decent fight too.

I agree, this would be a great idea to lump all of these so called "trash fish" into a new forum area. I would love to learn more about some of these fish. I think it would draw more posts than the secret lakes section.
