I do miss Joes as well. Lots of good things under one roof.
The new owners of Joes really screwed up when they took ownership. Changing the name to Joes, different business plan, etc, poor marketing for new stores, etc.
Outdoor Emporium gets a lot of my fishing dollars now. Good store, good prices good knowledge good selection.

The old Larry's sure was a convenient location. It was about a mile away for me.

Joes was a great store, I was really excited when they opened the one in Renton and only went in once before they closed! However, if it were not for Joes closing I would not know about Auburn Sports and Marine which is a very cool place and worth the drive from Renton.

i miss joes more than ever, going from talking all fishing and hunting working there last summer to loading bricks and dirt at home depot this summer definitely was not what i was planning on. So seeing as how theres not too much in the immediate area anymore whos down for opening up a shop somewhere in town? haha

I think every day about this. Not that I can do it... but seriously, there is a hole that needs to be filled badly.
Southend = OUtddoor Emporium...... N. End= Ted's and a lot of greenbacks to be spent in between.

Currently there isn't much opportunity for start up specialty fishing retailers. Elliot's by Alderwood Mall is a good example. A knowledgeable owner (former long time partner in Outdoor Emporium), good product lines, fair pricing, etc. But was unable to make it as there wasn't enough traffic coming thru the doors. I looked at entering the business years ago but it didn't pencil out even if I worked 7 days a week. Now with the internet retailers siphoning off a lot of the big ticket items the opportunity is even less. Now if a guy were independently wealthy and liked to stand around BS'ng with walk in customers all day, and didn't really give a rip about the bottom line, then he should give it a go and probably end up turning a large fortune into a small fortune. Support the local guys that are left in business as they all need our support as this is not a growth industry.

I know it's great to see the lures and hardware up close but online sales are pretty darn good. Some of the online prices can't be beat at any stripmall store even with shipping.... I have never been ripped by a online shop. I don't really miss alot from Joe's closing but one thing that I miss is seeing the quality of the gear.....By staying with product lines that I am familiar with then I don't miss the hands on feature as much. If anyone sees items that are great and work then by all means post them so we all can benefit from your findings. Maybe this forum will be a good place for that??? Joe's was certianly convenient for most of us as would be a 7-11.... if all 7-11's closed then someone would take over the spot...... I think that somebody will start a new fishing/hunting store and we will all be happy outdoorsman again! My two pennies, Steve
