The time for a new rod and reel is finally here!! Im getting an 11' 6" spinning pole rated 1 - 4 lb line and then a medium sized abu cardinal reel in a nice cream color a one shot of 8lb maxima mono and 2 new coats. Spending 250 and man im excited! I cant wait for winter steelhead and this set up!
My rod and reel, they comfort me.

This size is good for tossing bobber and jig or eggs. Its not that you need a huge rod to do these, but a longer rod does help especially if you need to mend your line or keep your line off the water. However fishing with other people is kinda needed for a rod that long. Ever try to land a fish by yourself with a rod that long? I havent and its because that was pointed out to me by the good people at the fishing counter of sportco lol. Hope you enjoy the new gear. Im pretty much good to go but still wouldnt mind a new wading jacket and some new wading boots. I use to just use football cleats a few sizes too big. But went to a boot with felt. Im hating felt more and more. Only took me a few years to figure that out though.Splitshot wrote: 11'6" ? I guess mine is 3' too short.

I've landed 'em by myself with a 10' 6" noodle. It's easy enough when you play 'em out. Which with 6 pound test that isn't really a probleem as long as you keep pullin on 'em, cuz they barely know there hooked. They just got to get tired enough.

Noodle rods are awesome it just sucks when it is a day where there are pods of fish that are moving through at a good pace and you are stuck playing a fish for an hour. Just like any rod it has a time and a place. Congrats on the new rod though.

I use a 9'6" Fetha Styx... I know of a guy who uses a 13' rod! So 11'6" isn't too bad!
