poor mans boat Pier fishing with a twist
well I have a plan for thanksgiving day to fish dash point my normal hang out. this time while shopping for more junk I got a Idea to fish with a bottom walker sinkers and so to say troll the bottom with a lure and see what I can catch since I am tired of star fish and crabs eating my bait. So my plan is to use a 3 oz bottom walker with a lure tied behind it and cast and reel cast and reel to see what I catch. any thoughts on this if it works I know what methond I will use out there from now on I am still bringing herring just in case lol....
I figure the lure will be a some what light weight so it floats a little and it doesn't sink also
any thoughts on this process / project? And has anyone tried this before?

Will those hold up 3 oz?
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

RE:poor mans boat Pier fishing with a twist
Let us know how it works! I love bottom fishing in the sound just to kill time. Anything except those starfish!
RE:poor mans boat Pier fishing with a twist
I know It will be a long day casting lol I am thiking of getting a 2 pole stamp but I will have to consult the lawyer's first AKA the rules and regs before I spend the extra money. I think it may work I bought a uglt stick just for this attempt lol. and a Nice new reel also.
My goal is to sling (Cast) it as far as I can and reel it in slowly but surely and hope for a bite on the way in. i should be able to get it out a ways out in the deep green ocean.

RE:poor mans boat Pier fishing with a twist
The 2 pole this year has only been for fresh water. I haven't heard about next license year.
Your idea, is good, if you can keep the lure above the kelp and rocks... Kings (blackmouth) are suppose to hang out
close to the bottom. Using downriggers we troll close to the bottom but not as close to the bottom as you will be.
Where on the dock are you planning to fish?

Have you tried a using the drop shot method? Just tie the hook on so that it sits about a foot and a half above the weight and add your favorite plastic bait. Add some scent and real bait if you're not getting bit and don't leave it in one spot for too long. That's my goto setup for picking up sand abs/flounder.
RE:poor mans boat Pier fishing with a twist
I am planning to fish the far corner where it ends out toward the Island across the water I am not sure I will post a review on this Idea I have and we will see if it works......I hope it does I have to go outside the box as thing in the box are not working for me too well...
Gman I used the drop shot method and catch all of the above for bottom fishing crabs star fish and occasional bull fish or flounder other then that I can get crabs from the water all day and toss them back all day also.

You may want to make sure that Dash Point is open.

There seems to be quite a bit of things for your lure to wrap around when it lands in the water. I wouldn't be suprised if you ran into tangling problems#-o

RE:poor mans boat Pier fishing with a twist
well to update on the staus of my rig it worked in the sense of not getting all tangled in the line but didn't work on catching any fish with it. although I did happen to snag a crab pot on accident. which I thought crabbing wasn't in season for area 11... sure seemed top be with all the pots in the water. I will try this some more to se if I can get any flounder on the line ot maybe a black mouth if they are down there..... I will keep trying this method until it works or I lose the weight lol.. which ever comes first. I will keep all updated
