i like my lami, i've got a 10' cert pro and love the heck out of it. last year for humpies at dash point i bought a 9'6" 8-12lb northwest special because sportco had one for 50 bucks. i abused that rod. i was fishing 15lb line and flinging pinks over the rail with it, and watched some more expensive rod buckle under that kinda abuse down there. i gave it to my girl now and she uses it all the time in the river. nate, i'm pretty sure it was just a bad blank because no company can really afford to make crappy products and put a good warranty on it. that's just my opinion though.
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except i still get to kill something.

If Im not mistaken my name is right there? Your own words are written down. I take it that the comment was about me yes when you start it with Pooh and then say other words after that.

Well two questions

1) which model was it?

2) what is the date code?

I have a couple XMG's and haven't had a problem.

Nate, I like Okuma rods also. I fish with guide select models. I have 2 of them. They also carry a lifetime warrenty that Ive used. I broke one because a chum wrapped me around a tree at the skok. The other I broke Because I took pics turned around put my fish in the cooler took a step back and crunch. Stepped right on the damn rod. But just send a piece of the rod in and 14.99 and you get a new rod shipped back. Very nice people on the phone to deal with too.
More fish please!

Not cool Brian. Probably one of the stupidest comment and false accusation of your fellow member. I have fished with Pooh in may occassions and never seen him bring a fish sideways, I'm not saying it can't happen but your statement implies that's the only way he catches fish. Sometimes it's best to keep you mouth shut :-# if you don't have anything nice to say. I realize this is off the topic and I apologize Nate.

I only had my lami certi pro this year and so far I have no problem. I try to stay with the line and weight rec. for my rod. I think if you go way over, mabye that's why some people break their rods.

I have no clue about lami rods I like my okuma I agree with Pooh with the great warranty on them. I know wright and mcgill or what ever is on sale now for 50% off that will be the first rod I will own over 100bucks and that because I am getting it for 70 lol. but I agree I would think is was just a bad blank as lami couldn't afford to replace the rods left and right due to breakage.

it says on the rod 9' 2" 1/4 - 5/8 oz 8 - 15 lb EXS 92MC XMG-50

it feels spectacular in my hand, I pair it with the Shimano Stradic 3000fl and the balance and feel was amazing. Until it caught fish :( I don't know what part of that is the date code or not.

King hunter I'm not sure I appreciate you calling me a punk. There are other ways to settle this if you would like. On the other hand why don't you go back to being a terrible fisher woman.

Ay, brian, I'm sure that you're a nice guy and all, and I believe you that you've had bad things happen with Lamiglas rods, and that you know guys who had problems. But there's absolutely no need to be so confrontational towards your fellow fishermen. I'm more frustrated than all ya'll with my best rod out of commission for the best two weeks of winter steel season. Well, it's the easiest to fish, it has superior feel, action and can get the fish hooked better, but whether it's the ebst that I could have is another question. Everybody mellow out, I realize that their are Lamiglas guys, loomis guys, and then there are the rest of us who want the sweetest rod we can get, that will fish 'em all well and most importantly LAST. tell me more about the lami's you or your buddies have had bad experience with, because if I'm gonna get a new rod, it's gotta be worth it. :bigsmurf:

I know sereval people with the 9'2" never had problems, so it is hard to say. Something might have happen at the store also.

the date code is right above the handle on the blank it will be a letter and numer. I don't know if all models had problems but I know some of the earlier models had some issues.

Something to keep in mind is that high end graphite rods are very susecptable to nicks and fractures from events like being dropped, hitting anything with a sharp edge or even being thrown in the back seat with another rod. These very thin walled, super sensitive, ultra light weight rods just can't take that kind of abuse. Carbon fiber is a very strong material but can also be very brittle. Get yourself a case for the rod and transport it with it in the case! Don't ever drop or place your rod on the rocks to attend to a beached fish, take off your vest and use it as a cusion or better yet stand it up in the bushes or trees along the bank. I can honestly say that I have never had a rod break on me while fighting a fish, setting a hook, popping a line of the downrigger clip or busting off a snag. If your fishing reels have scuff marks on them due to the way you handle your gear, chances are your graphite rods are damaged as well.

I forgot to mention, make sure you test your rod before you buy it. Have the sales guy hold the tip and put the screws to it. I see folks smacking rods around in stores all the time and then they put them back like nothing ever happened.

I have a Lami Northwest Special that I bought used off of my friend. It survived all of the snags that I had to break this season. Its rated up to 12 pound line and I was using 15 main and 12 leader for silvers. Sometimes the mainline was breaking from snags.
