March 1st!!!!

Post by gpc » Tue Feb 15, 2011 4:52 pm

So after picking up river (salmon) fishing a few years back, trout fishing just doesn't hold the same appeal. But the March 1st opener is some of my favorite fishing. 1st camping trip of the year, do some GREAT trout fishing, hang out in the sun.

I cant wait, going to OE on Friday to stock up and spend too much money. Anybody else doing the march 1st opener? I am not a pro by any means, but I know the area very well, and have fished the hell out of the area, any March 1st questions dont be afraid to ask.

Never heard of an 'opener'. Last I knew salmon season closed March 31st. That was back in the mid '70s.:)

gpc is referring to the central Washington lowland lakes that open early, March 1st. I was just interviewed on John Kruse's radio show about that very subject.

And what did you have to say? Link?

Oh, not a salmon opener, the trout opener. I had to read it again. I don't go fishing on opening day, too many 'people'. :-)

not, much, it's not open yet, LOL. :joker:

We talked about previous year's reports. The Tuccanon lakes area have a lot of past 4-5 star reports. The audio file will probably get posted in a week or so.

Right on. I imagine the 1st of March I will likely be pounding spring run Steel on the coast and hitting the peak of the Blackmouth season with a sturgeon and cutthroat mixed in here and there, we'll see, maybe I could get over for some trouts.
