Catchable Trout Plant Reports

Nice to see some fish being stocked in Snohomish and Skagit Counties. Specifically I see McMurray received 4,470 1/2 pound rainbow trout 4 days ago which I thought was good news. Looks like Goodwin also received a decent plan (3,500) slightly smaller trout on 3-29-11 which may explain why I saw several boats out on Goodwin Saturday morning as I passed by on my way to a buddy’s house to do a brake job on my 4Runner. Flowing Lake which is also a year round fishery has received 4,090 fish (2000 of them in the 1/2 pound range) in the last 3 weeks. I know that catching planted trout isn't for everyone but it sure does help the fishing. I’m looking forward to the water warning up and the opener to pass.

Ditto. I'll be sneaking off to fish during the work days, hoping things will be a bit quieter. Well into the season, I'll start the weekend fishing. I must fess up my wussy'ness that crowds overwelm me a bit...must be my age.

I notice that the WDFW Stocking schedule and the actual stocking reports vary quite a bit. Some lakes that were scheduled for March stocking are now going to be stocked in late April. The WDFW seems to upload their weekly stocking reports on Thursday.

The lakes we stock are public lakes that have been historically stocked for many years. The number of fish that go in each lake are dependent on the number of fish we have in the hatchery and can change from year to year.

Seems like that's the case every year. I sure wish even a few year round lakes in Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, and or Island counties could see a decent stocking at times other than a month before the opener. I can't remember a time when I've seen any year round lakes in north west WA get stocked a few months before the opener. I also notice that some lakes always get small plants while others get nice size plants. I’d love to know why that is.

We are really lucky because we have Clark County PUD funding one of our hatcheries and so, we can get the best fish food and that means big pig fish! Plus, our other hatcheries, Mossyrock and Goldendale (raises the broodstock) have really got their programs dialed in, even with the less stellar fish food and are raising some fantastic catchable fish.

I'm really proud of the great work our hatchery guys put forth to make some nice fishing opportunities for you guys!

Here are some specific pages that will help you out.

First is the Regional map - if you know what county your lake is that you want to fish, then this will help you find what Region that lake is in. And you can always call the regional office to get more information on the lake:

You mentioned Olympia in Region 6 and this is the Region 6 catchable plants page:

The reason we do not give specific dates for stocking is because things can always come up that would delay a plant - truck breaks down, weather, other work issues. However, my guys down here will call me regularly to ask what's coming up for stocking and I can give them about a 10 day window of what is coming up.

Mineral Lake should be interesting - it always is! I did the opener at Rowland last year and it was windy but fun. And they were catching some nice big fish there!

It had the feel of being in E WA when I fished Rowland. Must have been the wind! AND the BIG fish! LOL

That planted number for Mineral was HUGE! It should be DYNOMITE for those that fish Mineral. Have FUN!

It'll be a fresh water Buoy 10! OK, Buoy ten is fresh almost half the time. LOL
