Dumb question. What is "Pop gear"? Someone got an image or diagram?

hit like a freight train-description of what happens when fishing for smaller species of fish, a larger species like a musky slams into your lure and just keeps on going.

I would like to know the definition of (drains)?

Under the special rules for the Yakima River it says

"Yakima River (Yakima Co.)
entire river,including tributaries and drains"

is it anything that drains into the river or is it some kind of irrigation feature?

Perhaps it means drainage from runoff during rain storms or creeks that dry up during the summer.

In the flasher section look for cow bells, flash lites, ford fenders. These are your pop gear. I prefer the ford fender for success, however, hildebrandt makes a good set of blades and is easier to reel in.

Cracker = A fisherman who looses a fish before getting the fish in to the net.

That's what I call my partner when he goes to net my fish and instead hits my fish so hard it breaks my gear and I lose the fish.

Hawg - A large fish
Fishing Hole - A spot on a body of water that is known for good angling opportunities.
Catch-and-Release - The practice of releasing the fish you have caught so that they can be caught another day. This practice should be done carefully, leaving the fish in the water at all times if possible, and if not, keeping the fish out of water for a minimal time.
Strike - The action of a fish taking your bait or lure.
Red eye - rock bass
Waldo - walleye
Boot - a dark fish (salmon/steelhead)
Down Streamer - a steelhead that has spawned and is heading back to the salt.
Birds nest/rats nest - Backlash
Dog - Chum Salmon
"Silver Bright" Salmon - What they sell Chums as in the stores.
Reds - spawning beds
Mending - The adjustment of ones fishing line while or after casting, usually done by fly fisherman to keep the fly in the strike zone longer.
Hangup - snag
Suicide Salmon - a salmon that jumps when a large boat motors past it
Spawner - a salmon nearing the end of its life swimming upstream
Panfish - a small species of fish like bluegill, crappie, etc.
Spooled - when a large fish rips all the line of your spool
Prop. - short for propeller
Shaker - a small fish, usually refering to a salmon
Steal head - a sea run rainbow trout

Here's a few more:

Black Bass - A general term given to a several species of bass, including largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass.

Crankbait - A lure made of wood or plastic with a bill that allows the lure to dive when you reel it in (hence "crankbait"). While they are being reeled, they wiggle, which gives these lures the apperance of a real fish.

Stern - The rear of a boat

Bow - The front part of the boat

Port - The left side of the boat when looking forward from the stern

Starboard - The right side of the boat when looking forward from the stern

Still fishing - Casting the bait out and letting it set until you get a bite

OK everyone, a great suggestion by Mikey to add a definition page - and you can help. Place the word and then the definition. Use the format as seen in the below sample. After we have a big enough list Aaron and I will alphabetize (spell check!) and post it to the site. Any word or phase pertaining to fishing is fair game. Here's a start:

birdsnest-when you dont set the spool tension control of your baitcaster according to the weight of your lure when you switch lures and try a whippy, hard cast and your line gets tangled within its self and you either need experience with birdsnests or just cut off the line altogether....

Well bacon is new to the market but I will go out on a limb and give it a definition maybe it will stick. I was co-creator of the Bacon Buzz along with BBD. Maybe someday(pending BBD's approval) I will share the real story with you guys it is quite funny.

Bacon-the lure of the day that catches the most fish. (i.e. That texas rigged senko was the bacon today I caught 10 fish on it one going 5lbs.)

Dink-any fish caught that is not a keeper

Honeyhole-the hot spot where you always catch fish
