SKC Puget Sound Anglers, 18 Jan 12, Meeting

Post by Phoenix77 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 11:29 am

Our January 18th meeting we will have Captain Skip Anderson, Director, Flagship Maritime Training, next to West Marine in Fife

A professional maritime training instructor he will discuss how the USCG license process works, and explain the rewards ... and the risks ... of earning your captain’s license. The primary elements of his USCG-approved OUPV / Six-Pack training program will be shared, including navigation, rules of the road, and deck seamanship.
This is just what we all need to help us get the most out of our time on the water. Get the confidence you need with general navigation, rules of the road, and deck seamanship and find out what it will take to go to the next level and get your Captains license.

A graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, Anderson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Analysis. Anderson was also a letter-winner on the USNA Varsity Sailing Team. He earned his Master of Science degree in Command, Control and Communications from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. His naval career spanned twenty-four years, including service aboard three destroyers, one frigate, three aircraft carriers, and a battleship. He has over fifty years of boating experience, including decades in small craft, both here and abroad, from tug boats to yachts, and barges to cruise ships. In addition to establishing the Flagship Maritime Training Center, he is the founder of the Tacoma Tall Ships Society, and founder and director of Tacoma Community Sailing. He is a certified American Sailing Association sailing instructor, and is certified US Sailing Race Officer, teaching their race management seminars throughout the region. His current activities include race management, vessel transport services, and afloat training services. He is the immediate past President of the Tacoma Waterfront Association. He formerly served as dock master and harbormaster in a variety of locales.
