Post by Ytown25 » Wed May 23, 2012 5:27 pm

Id like to make some kind of rod holder to put on my float tube. I've seen ppl use PVC pipe but idk how I'd rig it. Any suggestions. I bass fish so it's be great to have a couple rods to switch back an forth. I have an Odc 420 by creek comp.

If you don't get much response, try asking in the bass forum, there are a bunch of guys on this site that use float tube for bass.

I have made many rod holders our of PVC, but for mini kick pontoons. For me, I like all my gear to lay as flat as possible, that way I am not getting caught up kicking under trees & stuff. Doesn't take much to keep a rod on the craft (but then you have to be carefull that you don't run into something (dock, bank, etc.) and snap your rod that way #-o ). Maybe this will help at least get you started or give you ideas.
I cut a 1" to 2" length of PVC, drill two holes into it about 1"(or less) apart on the side. Then thread a zip tie in one hole and out the other and either attach that directly to your rig (say an "O" ring on the rig somewhere, or via a strap of some kind run thorugh the zip tie and around the rig). This will secure the butt of your rod. Then pick up some two sided velcro (fuzz on one side, hooks on the other) up the rod a ways figure out a way to attach a length of it to your craft. Then you can put the butt of the rod in the pvc and attach the uppder part via the velcro strip.
I did this on my mini-toon and it enabled me to be fishing one rod and have two more (one on each side of me) at the ready.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

I'd suggest looking at the Scotty's Bait Caster / Spinning Rod Holders. They can be lashed to the tube with their nylon strap mount. This rod holder fits most bait casters and spinning reels well and comes with a nice elastic strap that one can fit to prevent accidental rod removal, if you get my drift.

Scotty makes both a spin cast and fly rod holder for tubes and cats. Just strap it on.

I have a couple float tube rod holders I have never used. I can bring them to the swap meet if you happen to go.
