Cascade River Springer Q

Post by Brat Bonker » Mon May 28, 2012 11:46 am

What are some good rigs to catch some springers on the cascade or upper skagit from the banks, I plan on making a couple trips up there, any suggestions?

I would have to say from what I've read that eggs, either drifted or under a float work well for kings on the Cascade.....that's what I am going to use at least.

How would you rig those eggs?
Would spoons and spinners work?

Fish will bite the same things. It just depends on the conditions and the mood of the fish as to what they want. The easiest way to fish with roe is to drift fish with it. Under a float works as well. The fish will also take spinners and spoons, but they are a way to cover water. If they aren't hitting them after a bit, it's time to move to a more subtle approach. But for the most part fish what you have fun fishing with, and switch it up, because who knows what they want until you start getting bit that day?

Nate maybe you can help me, Im going through the regs for the Skagit River since tommorow we can finally fish the kings on the upper river. Now I have heard people say go to the mouth or to the cascade hatchery. Problem is I have no idea where those are at. On top of that the regs say "Game fish June 1st" "Salmon September 1st".

I guess I am wondering where to go, and if its really legal to fish the kings tommorow.

Also one last question. I saw you were saying it just depends on what they wanna bite, I picked up some orange, green, yellow and pink yarn, a gold spoon, already have my cured eggs, what would work best in your professional opinion?

Sorry one last thing, whats the easiest way to tie an egg loop on your hook?
