Looking for streams and rivers to fly fish in E.W.

I am from spokane and moved back about 3 years ago. I am trying to find some creeks, streams or beaver ponds to fly fish in this area. I know about crab creek and the spokane river but I remember as a kid there being some many more spots and now I can't seem to find them! Any help of some places around me even within a couple hours drive that are good spots would be helpful. I don't mind walking/hiking to them either. I'm just not a real big lake guy and rather fly fish a river or creek first. So if anyone out there can help me that would be Great!!! Shoot I am even willing to meet up and be shown so if someone wants to show me I will pay for gas and lunch and we can make a trip out of it!!! Thanks

Lots of stuff within a couple hour drive. I'd start by checking the Regs and look at the waters in the counties near by and check for selective gear. Not that you can't fish other places too, you just won't be running into a lot of folks dragg'in and swing'n hardware and bait. If you have a tube or small boat, Beda lake has some dandies in it and the water temp should be dropping to the point where you might want to bring home some dinner. You can keep one a day, last check.

Thanks bodofish and I am a C&R guy so for dinner I will stick with steak.:-) and I am looking for some places ppl might know I have been through the reg books and they don't have a lot for creeks. And I doubt any beaver ponds.lol But I will check again maybe I missed it or something

C&R is great but if you did want to bonk one, Beda is stocked with Trips so it's really a put and take for fly guys. A good place to tackle that 3-5 pounder. I C&R native fish but when we pay to have them for dinner, you can't beat them. For streams..... There are a number of streams in the Quincy wildlife area and also in the Seep lakes, It's kind of a get out look and explore kind of thing. Oh also there is a ridge that runs behind Quincy up to about Ephrata, the name escapes me now. On the back side of that ridge there is a system of creeks that run into the Columbia at the "Bar". I have fished at a bunch of spots in there but again, I was just exploring and said wow, that looks fishy, miles of roads on both side of the ridge, great exploring with a bunch of little ponds and creeks. Hoppers and any little black things in the little creeks. Pick up a Gazetteer and start your adventure.

Rocky Ford can fish pretty well year round being a spring creek (I think?). Not real close to you but some good trout.

Buddy that works at Wholesale Sports was over there approx 2 weeks ago nailing some big ones on waterboatmen. Scuds and chironomids can work during 'offseason' months too but he specifically mentioned waterboatmen at the time.

You might try PMing Lotech Joe or Marc Martyn out in that general area for some probable good info/leads.

Wow you guys have have given me a lot and please keep it coming!! Knotabassturd how do I find someones pm as I am new to this I don't really know.and are those there screen names? I am for sure going to have to get out and explore. I can't wait!! Again thanks for all the help!! To everyone who has helped so far. also bodofish do you use sinking line up at beda or do they take stuff off the top? I really like the dry take on this more than the wet. I mean I well nymph if I have to but would rather watch them come and get it!lol

If you look in that thread you'll see both lotech and Marc Martyn in there (the 2 I mentioned).

They'd probably both be really good east side/Spokane references compared to me (a guy never getting out fishing bored at lunch/dinner break reading fishing stuff LOL).

Think they're both in the general area you are and both have been at it quite awhile.

Bodofish also knows his fly stuff but think he's on the west side.

Beda Lake, Quincy Lake, Burke Lake (but it's being rotenone this month), any of the seep lakes below the Potholes Reservoir, Rocky Ford Creek, Park and Blue Lake. These are all obvious and public areas.

Well as it said in the tittle I am looking more for streams rivers and beaver ponds than I am lakes but thanks. I have heard rocky ford is GREAT and I think I am going to head down there in the next couple weeks and give it a try.

I'm a dry fly kind of guy but heard nymphing seems to be the way to go out there is this true?? And anyone can feel free to hop in here with flys to use.lol

A buddy and I found a small stream south of Sprague, say maybe 8-10 miles past Fourth of July Lake. It's Cottonwood Creek if memory serves. He was good about this stuff....sniffing out trout where nobody else could. Sorry, I can't remember the state route as I've been gone a couple years, maybe Route 23 or 29? It parallels the road in a small town (once again, can't remember the name) near the Rock Lake turnoff. Anyways, I laughed when I first saw it, more of a slow-moving, muddy bottomed slough than a creek. My buddy swore he had read that it was stocked with bows. In fact, I think it's listed in the state stocking report. It had some holes, though, and within a few casts I was tangling with a thick-bodied rainbow in the 16" range. Truth be told, I was shocked! We both ended up with a couple decent fish that day. On a couple of return trips, I found one really good hole that gave up 8-10 of these cookie-cutter 16" fatties! Got them all on PTs and hares ears, real simple stuff. There used to be a State Access sign, something like "Feel Free to Hunt/Fish", however, it's a narrow strip of land that butts up against posted land. Definitely worth the trip if it still holds fish!
